I like writing within canon because it lets me build on what Kripke & Co have given us, hopefully expanding and elaborating on those elements - like Sam's guilt and fears - that SN itself sometimes glosses over (often for legitimate reasons).
Thanks so much. I've always viewed Sam's use of demon blood as an addiction, and so much of his behaviour is that of an addict, so it was 'fun' to explore the guilt and fears it would raise in more lucid moments.
I'm working on a couple of other stories right now but there's so much to explore with Sam's demon blood addiction, I'm sure I will tackle it again in another fic.
There's no way that the Sam of Season 1 and 2 would willingly drink demon blood. To me, it's all tied into his devastation over not being able to rescue Dean from Hell, and his desperation to avoid his destiny. His internal struggle with what he's doing fascinating to me.
This hurts so much to read (in a good way)! It's exactly what I was hoping for in this summer_Sam_love celebration: stories that are totally rooted in an episode (couldn't really take place without the episode), but that give us insights into Sam (or the brothers) that the show sometimes seemed to just leave to our imaginations!

What impressed me about this was that it could be inserted as part of the episode and fit right into canon.

I'm thrilled you thought it worked. Thanks again.
