Yes, basically makes Deathtouch work like we all thought that it should do. Since 1 damage is basically lethal.
You still have to do all the crazy ordering of blockers as before but you basically only have to put 1 damage on it. This I believe works the same way with Protection creatures.
Previously if you attacked with a 4/4 Green Trampler I block with a 2/2 Prot Green creature you would assign 2 to the creature and 2 to me
With this change it seems that you now assign 1 to the Prot green and 3 to me.
Hmm deathtouch and trample suddently got a hell of a lot more powerful. I foresee gorgon flail and basilisk collar going up in value...
So, let's say a 4/4 trampling deathtoucher is blocked by a Spirit En-Kor, and the defending player elects to redirect one point of damage from the spirit to some other creature. Do three points trample over, or does the deathtoucher have to deal a second point of damage, do the rules see that damage won't actually be lethal? A similar argument could be made with Absorb, I guess.
{0} : The next 1 damage that would be dealt to Spirit en-Kor this turn is dealt to target creature you control instead.
10/4/2004 The ability of this card does not do anything to stop Trample damage from being assigned to the defending player. 10/4/2004 It can redirect damage to itself. 10/4/2004 It is possible to redirect more damage to a creature than that creature's toughness. 10/4/2004 When you redirect damage it is still combat damage. 10/4/2004 You can use this ability as much as you want prior to damage being dealt.
Regardless of Deathtouch or not a 4/4 trampler blocked by a 2/2 Spirit en-kor assigns 2 damage to it and 2 to the defending player.
So this implies that with deathtouch you assign 1 damage to the spirit en-kor. Which would be considered lethal and 3 to the defending player since the redirection isn't going to be happening till the damage is actually dealt (delayed trigger set up essentially)
