Ottawa trip! Are there Ottawa folks on my flist?

I'm going to Ottawa! I decided around 4pm today that, yes, I really was going on vacation even though I hadn't planned ahead like I usually do. So this is a really, really last minute trip, which I've committed to even though it meant rescheduling a client meeting and standing up my uncle and aunt, who are in town to have dinner with my family. Hi there! I'm close to Ottawa (smiths falls is about 45 minutes out) but am preparing for a trip that leaves first thing saturday so won't be able to see you. :( But enjoy Ottawa - it's a great place to visit. Try to give yourself time to walk around the grounds of the Parliament Buildings - the view from the back is pretty spectacular.

What museums are you planning on? My favorite is the National Gallery, which also has spectacular outside views. And if you're feeling extravagant, I always enjoy afternoon tea at the Chateau Laurier.

Give me a shout if you have any questions - jlmj63 @ yahoo dot ca. Have fun!

Hey, sorry I'll miss you but I hope you have a fantastic trip too! I did walk around the canal locks, though not quite behind the Parliament buildings. Saw the light show tonight and it was great--heck, I nearly teared up in places. *g* I went to the National Gallery this evening and saw some amazing art. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but there were some truly incredible pieces among the aboriginal art. They really, really didn't shy away from pointing out colonialism, which was kind of awesome. Also, that one Ruben portrait of an old woman actually blows my mind. (I'm not really a hardcore art lover, but sometimes I think I could be. *g*)

I'm too cheap for Chateau Laurier, but it's gorgeous. :D Have a great trip yourself!
