I loved reading all these thinky thoughts. I think the Clark / Con relationship is particularly tricky since Clark had no role in the creation of Con beyond the theft of some of his DNA. Following the rules of clone parentage from Lois Bujold's Vorkosigan saga (one of my favorite sci-fi series), that would make the two at most brothers - and then, even only if both parties want to pursue the relationship. Of course, that raises the question of why Clark would NOT want to pursue the relationship. Is he perhaps put off by the examples of his fellow JLA'ers? Feels he can't impose on Lois? Interesting point about the contrast with Kara.

Wow, I'm so sorry I missed this comment! Very delayed reply follows:

Yeah, I think the early Superman/Superboy relationship was more "real deal" and "pretender". I think it was the World Without Young Justice story-line that touched on them as rivals, as Kon as the future Superman and Clark having issues about being replaced? To me, "rivals" is a lot closer to "brothers" than father/son. Kon's issues were less about wanting a daddy or mentor or a more personal relationship and more about wanting authenticity and validation from Superman the hero. He wanted to live up to the Superman ideal, being good enough to fill those shoes, not about being a supportive figure like Robin is to Batman.

Of course, that raises the question of why Clark would NOT want to pursue the relationship. Is he perhaps put off by the examples of his fellow JLA'ers? Feels he can't impose on Lois? Interesting point about the contrast with Kara. This is a very interesting question! I just realised that Kon and Cissie have a lot in common: they were never fully ( ... )
