If you do not want your squee harshed, please do not keep reading. Below the cut is my knee-jerk reaction to the first five seconds of the Smallville series finale. (No, it's not an anti-ship screed.) Warning: image heavy.

SPOILERS AHOY )

I saw this on TVLine.com...

by not confirming that Chloe is in fact Oliver’s wife in the future (though that obviously is their rugrat and she is wed to someone), it leaves open the chance that Green Arrow wound up with Dinah/Black Canary.

I read your post before reading that, and haven't seen the episode, so I was just curious if you think that that scene is open to that interpretation, as well.

Well, it's certainly possible Chloe's now married to someone else, but if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's probably supposed to be a duck. But the TVLine.com article is correct in that it's not explicit--were I to write post-series fic, I wouldn't be outright contradicting onscreen dialogue if I assumed Chloe and Oliver are splits-ville.

As much as I hate the idea of Chloe/Oliver domestic bliss, I think we're supposed to believe it's the happy ending they both deserve. If Oliver is a Lex parallel, this is the flip side of the tragic Luthor lineage--Ollie gets to continue the Queen line in a healthy, happy way, with life instead of death. And Chloe's dark arc gets dropped in S10 and she's white-washed to be a maternal figure--she gets positioned with Martha as positive protective forces in Clark's life. She's the real Lana Lang, complete with husband and kid and childhood BFF status.

(Ooh, hey! Pete and Lana get divorced in the retconned timeline, I think, which gives me hope that Chloe and Ollie really are splits-

Heck, Connor looked white half the time in the 2001 series, when the colorist apparently didn't know better. And while that got straightened up, last I saw him in Green Arrow/Black Canary, he was getting some inscruitable makeover where he ended up with shapeshifting powers, but unable to shoot arrows for some reason; the point of it being, There Can Be Only One Green Arrow blah blah. So it's not that surprising unforutnately that the Smallville people felt no hesitation about cutting off any possibility Connor could be born someday.

I guess it could have been worse... baby Ollie could've put on a costume before Clark! hahah sorry I had to go there... if these kinds of jokes are a sore spot with the show's fans, I apologize.

Was it the same colourist throughout Kevin Smith's run? I think the second TPB (forget the title) did a better job with Connor--he's clearly darker than Ollie and Mia.

Ugh, seriously, I hate that crap. I'd stopped reading around the Crisis, so didn't follow the GA/BC arc and hadn't heard Connor got metahumaned (not a word, I know). I'm pissed about Connor and Cass Cain, much as I enjoy Stephanie as the new Batgirl. Also, I am NOT a Hal Jordan fan, so while I love Oliver Queen and think he's awesome most of the time, I don't appreciate this whole "bring back the dead/old white men" trend. John Stewart is my Green Lantern, end of story. But Kyle Rayner can stick around--he never tried to destroy the universe. (I should get my hands on some JLA when Kyle and Connor were GL and GA.)

baby Ollie could've put on a costume before Clark! I swear, there's a part of me that really, really wishes the Chloe bedtime ( ... )
