For the record, I'm not writing this.

(Please note that this is my fantasy SGA, sort of like fantasy baseball, and should not be taken as commentary on other people's character or 'ship preferences.)

Inspired by my previous post... If I could re-cast the Atlantis expedition with canon characters from both SGA and SG-1, it'd look something like this:

ORIGINAL EXPEDITION - CIVILIANS
  • Elizabeth Weir, expedition leader
  • Jeannie McKay, chief scientist (replacing Rodney McKay)
  • Carolyn Lam, chief medical officer (replacing Carson Beckett)
  • Kate Heightmeyer, ship's counsellor psychologist
  • Radek Zelenka, Czech scientist
  • Peter Grodin, British scientist
  • Svetlana Markov, Russian scientist (she and Zelenka would get along *famously*)
  • Sarah Gardner, British scientist
  • Miko Kusanagi, Japanese scientist
  • Biro
  • Simpson
  • Kavanagh (because every show has to have a Kavanagh)
ORIGINAL EXPEDITION - MILITARY
  • Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell, military commander (replacing Marshall Sumner)
  • Lt. Col. Samantha Carter, vice-commander
  • Maj. John Sheppard, "light-switch"
  • Maj. Connor (from "The First Commandment")
  • Capt. Anne Teldy
  • Lt. Jennifer Hailey
  • Lt. Satterfield
  • Lt. Laura Cadman
  • Lt. Aiden Ford
  • Lt. Alicia Vega
  • Sgt. Bates
  • Sgt. Stackhouse
  • Sgt. Chuck Campbell (stealing the actor's last name)
  • Cpl. Markham
  • LCpl. Dusty Mehra
ETA: I can't believe I forgot Hailey and Satterfield! Duh!

I would've loved to add Sgt. Amelia Banks to the original expedition, but it's one thing to throw in Teldy, Vega, and Mehra since we rarely see off-world teams besides Sheppard's, and quite another to add Banks when we would've seen her in the control tower if she'd been there. Of course later we'd have more characters join:
  • Shen Xiaoyi, expedition leader (replacing Richard Woolsey)
  • Jennifer Keller, chief medical officer (replacing Carolyn Lam, who gets better, really!)
  • Katie Brown, Canadian scientist
  • Alison Porter, American scientist
  • Parrish, American scientist
  • Coleman, American scientist
  • Nurse Marie, Canadian (Quebecois, actually)
  • Sgt. Amelia Banks
There will also be fan-favourites like Young Doctor and Chinese systems tech from "Adrift"! I would *not* add Major Lorne, however. Sorry guys, he can play with the SG-1 characters back on earth.

I strongly believe that there is military presence from *many* nations represented on Atlantis--we just don't see them much, beyond that one German guy on guard duty all the time--but as there aren't any canon ones available, I can't add them. Did any of the Russian military survive SG-1? I'm thinking no.

Oh Stargate, why do you hate the Russians so?

Why replace Lorne and Woolsey? Because I *like* Bates and thought he was fascinating, a great character for creating tension with Sheppard, Teyla, and Weir. He was smart, hard, loyal, hyper-vigilant, and even when he was wrong, he wasn't *that* wrong. He always had a good point. I don't see why he couldn't have been an artist, a painter--he clearly had a softer side, a strong affection for his kid brother. And yes, I would like to keep another character of colour around.

Why Shen, who is clearly out for number one in a way Woolsey never was? Well, partly *because* she's out for number one. She's a player, and not actually great at it. But I think coming to Atlantis would change her, if you just threw her in the deep end to sink or swim. She'd swim. She's too much of a survivor.

One last thing: Cam would *not* suffer the same fate as Sumner. Not quite that bad, anyway. He'd be injured, seriously injured, on that first mission and Sam would have to take over as military commander. Cam would still be there, slowly recovering, and basically making John feel *really guilty*. Yes, because even in this female-dominated AU, I still 'ship John/Cam.

Ronon/Jeannie though. Thing of beauty.
