I should care more about Canadian politics than I do

Dec 04, 2008 09:16

Funny thing is, I just wrote up rules for blogging for my department's new social networking site, and Rule Numero Uno is to NOT copy-and-paste entire news articles because it's a violation of copyright laws.

Oh well.

I'm sort of on the side of giving everyone a time-out until they learn to play nice, heh.

On the other hand, I have to say that forming a coalition government without a vote of non-confidence doesn't seem to be playing fair. (Can you tell that I've been around kids for a very long time, heee!)

And yes, I think Jean needs all the luck she can get!

I'm not sure if I have any sort of opinion. What the coalition is doing isn't illegal. Maybe it's a waste of time and money, but then our last election sort of was too. But none of that means the coalition will do a better job than Harper. Maybe they will, maybe they won't.

And Harper is right about one thing -- it seems counterintuitive that the party which'll have the deciding vote is the party which was founded on the principle of separatism.

OTOH, priorities shift. Eh. I got no idea.

*snuggles you just because*

Hrumph. Harper was certainly willing to deal with the Bloc when it suited him and if he hadn't decided to attack arts and culture earlier in the year we'd probably be seeing a very different coalition - but I take comfort in the fact that whatever short term victory Harper's received he will now be screwed forever in Quebec. Unfortunately Harper's turning the Bloc into the coalition bogeyman doesn't exactly do a lot for national unity.

Yeah, exactly. That's kind of what I meant about priorities shifting. Sure, you can complain the Bloc are going to drag our nation down, yadda yadda, and maybe I don't know enough about Quebec politics to know what I'm talking about, but it's kind of insulting to say that the Bloc don't care about the economic crisis, that they wouldn't put that first and foremost in a time like this -- just like anyone else would. *shrug*
