I'm starting to wonder about the future. Like...

I don't even know.

Hey, random question. Do any of you feel that evil is inherited? Can you hide from destiny?

Anybody else have a great time at Jim's party? <3 That includes you, Konohamaru.

[Private to Ren]

So, about that second date. Where are you planning on taking me?

date, she's not her usual happy self, catty is musing

Yeah, that question hit a bit close to home for him >.> notthatharry August 13 2009, 18:26:03 UTC
The future can be a scary thing some times.

I...I don't believe evil is inherited. We are our own person, capable of deciding our own fates, independent from the people who gave birth to us.

If anything...evil is taught.

[Locked to Catty]

Something bring this on, or is it just idle musing?

The future is terrifying, actually.

... Well, if it's taught, does that mean it can be learned at any age?

[Locked to Harry]

... I don't know. A lot of the former, some of the latter.

It can be. There are times when you're not sure how you're even going to make it to tomorrow, or if it's even worth it, but a wise man once taught me that what's important is not giving up. Can't let fear of the future ruin whatever joy you might take from the present.

I think...it depends on how long a person was exposed, and what kind of person they are. I'd like to think even someone raised by a monster...can learn to be a decent person.

[Locked to Catty]

Let me know if I can help...

Do I seem like the kind of person who would let the future take control of my life?

I've just... Been thinking about what I should do?

... So, even if someone was raised by great parents, they could become something... Awful?

[Locked to Harry]

I don't even know how you could...

That question struck almost too much of a chord. brbusinivalice August 13 2009, 19:59:00 UTC
I would not say that it is 'inherited', no, but depending on how one is raised it can transfer from Father to Son, or Mother to Daughter.

The key is to remove all influences of 'evil', and allow one to embrace virtue in its stead.

There is no such thing as destiny.

Seems she picked a great topic to talk about. **cue eyeroll** scroll_heir August 13 2009, 20:32:23 UTC
So, you are going with the whole nurture side as opposed to nature?

How would you define "evil"?

Of course there is, Delita.

HO yeah. brbusinivalice August 13 2009, 20:56:20 UTC
Perhaps.

Evil is something of perspective, really. What I consider 'evil' is not that which you may consider so.

...But if it must have a definition, I would gladly point you in the direction of the ever-merciful and ever-kindly Ghost Widow.

*Note, the ever-kindly bit is very sarcastic.*

If there was, then we would all have a 'place', unable to move from it and go beyond that. I am sorry, but I cannot believe it.

Haha. scroll_heir August 13 2009, 21:04:16 UTC
... You're right.

Ball of sunshine, that one. I wouldn't call her evil.

-insert own brand of sarcasm.-

There you go, speaking in that straight line again.

I don't think so. Evil is more of a state of mind, not like a genetic illness.

Private to Catty

Depends. You feel like sneaking out to Hogsmeade?

What if it is an illness?

I wonder if there could be a cure created... It would give a whole new meaning to the "happy pill".

[Private to Ren]

I always feel up for that.

It would make sense of the phrase of being 'sick in the head.'

If you manage to figure it out, try to hide a few in Ophelia's food and see if they work.

Private to Catty

Alright. Tomorrow okay with you? We can head out during or after class, depending on if you want to be a good girl or not.

... You think only a few would be enough for her? Besides, there's no way I'm getting close enough to her for that. I'm reckless and clumsy, not suicidal.

[Private to Ren]

Tomorrow sounds fine. Hmph. I'm already sneaking out to Hogsmeade. Skipping class is a piece of cake.

Your concept of evil is a bit strange, if I may say so, that it sounds like a material possession versus a concept. The idea of inheritance is that it is passed down from an older generation to the youngers when a certain requirement is reached, such as age.

If you are somewhat paranoid of the idea that growing up to be evil is a result of who your ancestors was, then don't be, it doesn't work like that.

Well, maybe "inherit" is a tricky word here. How about genetic? Branded into your DNA...

... I wouldn't exactly call it paranoia...

wishesforname August 13 2009, 21:16:49 UTC
...Cystic Fibrosis, Haemophilia, Neurofibromatosis. These are all examples of genetic disorders that could be inherited from parent to child through their DNA construction.

Evil is not a genetic disorder.

You are asking about it, stating your curiousity and likely with your own family in mind. Paranoia may be a tad strong but, it's a good enough description.

Are there studies about this? Do we really know for sure that things like that are not genetic?

Humans are really complex.

Okay. I'll grant you that one. It might be bordering on paranoia.

I don't believe in that. It's the person that makes their own fate, not the other way around. You make your own destiny.

The party was...complicated.

I don't like to hear people telling me I'm doomed to repeat past mistakes, and I really don't like to hear that I'm powerless. What brought this question up in the first place?

...I'd rather not talk about it.

That song is stuck in my head now. scroll_heir August 13 2009, 22:12:14 UTC
... Just a thought. I can think, you know. I have deep thoughts. I just usually don't express them all the time. Yeah. That's what brought it on. I was curious.

Are you sure...? I'm really good at listening.
