Looks as though you had a good trip... Did you have a good time?
I have to say, though, I am in awe of the sheer volume of stuff you brought! I had trouble traveling with a bag a third the size of yours... However did you manage?
Yeah - I think we brought way too much stuff and I knew it from day one. But my traveling companion has different ideas of packing and I wanted her to feel comfortable so I let it go. Basically, we didn't do much walking: we got a lot of rides (about 23 in 9 days!) so it wasn't that bad overall. The heaviest and most annoying bits were our sleeping bags and our tent.
Anyway - yeah, I had a good time. And I'm finding that being no longer on the trip gives me a lot of insight to the trip itself - and I'm liking the trip more and more!
Well, that was awfully decent of you. And I bet you've got a much better idea of just how much of your stuff was unneeded, which will come in handy for the next trip you end up on. Vancouver Island and all those other islands are filled with friendly old hippies and other such folks, and you're both young and cute lookin', so it doesn't really surprise me that you had such good luck with getting picked up. What was the longest period of time you ever spent waiting for a ride? I'm guessing it wasn't very long.
Perspective is a funny thing... I can certainly think of a few moments that were miserable at the time, but as time passes, I find myself fondly remembering, perhaps even romanticizing it... "Remember that time when it was raining and life sucked?... Wasn't that great?" silly stuff like that.
I'm glad your opinion of your trip is becoming positive. Yah!
Courtenay sucks, by the way. We spent an hour or two trying to get a ride there - about 5 hours total over 3 days. The other longest wait was Campbell River and it started hailing, but we were having a good time regardless. We were there about 2 hours. Our quickest ride was way up north at the Zeballos turn off. Katherine was getting our bags out of the back of this guy's truck and he says, "Stick your thumb out - I bet this guy will stop for you" so I stuck my thumb out and he did! We didn't even have our bags out!
I just read the first line of this post again and I realized that I get that same feeling ALL the time. I freak out that my best friend doesn't love me, and then she does something that jolts me back to reality and I'm like... duh, yes she does.
