It hurts my heart so bad
Seeing you sigh and shake
Broken down so low, so sad
I can’t let you break

Cry to me, cry to me
You better not hide it
Let it come, let it bleed
I ain’t laughing, reach in and get it
And set it free
-Cry To Me; Heart

He didn’t like to admit it, show it, or even acknowledge it, but Stephen knew, deep in the back of his mind, that he was not a strong man. He pretended to be, but that was all it was, all it probably ever would be. It was a weakness, and weakness was unacceptable, so he did his best to hide it, cover it up, never let anyone know.

Jon knew anyway. Jon held him when he needed it, helped him when he couldn’t ask for it, took care of him when he wasn’t able to do it himself-and he did it all without judgment. It was something Stephen didn’t understand, but for which he was eternally grateful.

He didn’t always think he deserved Jon and his kindness, but in that same buried place in his mind, he knew he needed it.

That was why he didn’t question it. He couldn’t risk it not being there when he needed it.
