An auction...Sounds interesting. I'm not much into that type of art, but I rememeber that years ago, when I was a kid, I used to be impressed by some russian painters, Ivan Shiskin with his forests and Ivan Aivazovski with his sea landscapes. Aivazovsky's TERRIBLE seas, especially, still can keep me for hours watching. They hide some sensibility I'd like to explore, and I think the guy could express his soul better than anyone else could by words
I wish I could meet him:)
BUT...if I had the money you had, I wouldn't have spent them on paintings, which is a minus, you'd say, and I'm not sure I wouldn't agree...

Well, I did consider just skipping the auction and going on a spending spree in the city. Buy some nice shoes, get a gold pocket watch, and a 900 dollar bottle of wine I could refill after each party. I could say I was mugged. But then the guilt would get to me, right?

Well, you imply I'm a philistine:D
Well, I don't mind I am.
I would have bought some high heels shoes, green, maybe, weird and prolly scandalous, with bright yellow nails at my toes.
THAT'S a plus, as I can catch peoples comments in street, from nowhere:P
I love this type of test, btw. :D

Believe me, I got comments too, carrying around several paintings on the bus and rail. So when people looked, I simply told them that I'd just robbed a gallery.
