History. Spinning stories.

So, it didn't rain, and we did go to the historic town, and it was more fun than I'd thought it would be. We took the ferry to Staten Island, and that's always nice, seeing the water and whatnot. The historic town was a little sad, because it doesn't get into full swing until the middle of the summer. So no demonstrations. But the tour guide lady ( Read more... )

If you need to do more "research," Old Bethpage Village (site of a school field trip or two) isn't too far away. :)

You know, I'm thinking this story actually takes place on another planet, so no more research is necessary. *g*

Or maybe... Maybe Patrick pretends to be a woman to get the job as schoolmistress in the first place. And he, like, takes on another name, crossdresses, gets a loose priest to fake a baptismal and birth certificate for him, the whole nine. And then he meets Pete and at first, it's totally platonic. Patrick wanders his way into the tavern because he's so lonely and they become friends. Now, Pete's actually interested in men and fakes being hetero for the townsfolk. So of course he sometimes hits on Patrick. Patrick, in turn, always shoots him down because, duh, he has a penis. But he gets a little tipsy one night and Pete gets all protective and makes him stay in one of the rooms. When he tries to make Patrick comfortable in the bed (because this Patrick is a lightweight), he finds out and is all o.O but he tells no one. Save, maybe, his best friend Andy because Andy knows everything and will help him with the sure to follow moral dilemma. Meanwhile, Patrick wakes up the next morning without all his heavy skirts and assumes Pete knows ( ... )

So no wounded soldier in there somewhere? ;)

Pete is a little more bawdy than Patrick thinks is respectable, but he kind of likes it, too.

Of course he does, AW BOYS. (That I don't know).

Oh, I'm still totally in favor of the wounded soldier story! And it should definitely be set during the Civil War. I think Patrick would make a wonderful raggedy, world-weary soldier, and Pete is just the thing needs to find his purpose in life again. Awwwww! Boys.

I would read gazillions of words in this universe, no lie.

It really calls to the historical romance lover in me and I was totally a little giddy at the thought of reading something like that, even if it ends with that little bit of an extended summary right there.

Spinning this story in my head totally enhanced my historical town experience! If I did ever decide to write it, I'll be able to describe the schoolmaster's house and the tavern. :)
