Yes, there is a fic behind this, where I want to pin down the location of Durmstrang somewhat more precisely. Is it in Scandinavia? Russia/Siberia? Preferably for story purposes it should be somewhere where one could take a train to the vicinities, at least...

I recognized the German, and as I've actually stayed in Bavaria and have some German competence, it would be easier to write...but I think in the books Viktor says that it gets dark there in the winter almost all day, which means it must be further north. I like the hiding in the mountains idea, though.

I like that idea, too. The lake freezes over, which of course blocks the sunlight.

And was it just in the films that the Durmstrang students arrived in a boat that rose out of the water? I could have sworn there were pegusi in there somewhere...
