5-6 parts sounds about right for LJ posts of a story of that length. But it's better that they form relatively discrete chunks than that they be the same length. It might help, too, to provide direct links to all the earlier parts each time you post one.
Also, could you kindly turn off whatever setting requires the commenter to assemble a horrid jigsaw puzzle capcha EVEN IF THEY'RE LOGGED ON TO LJ?
Oh, wow. Didn't realize that was a guard dog capcha in place. I will look into that.
Anyway -- Oh, there will definitely be links between the parts when posted (though I'll be posting the story on my own site, not on LJ). I'm not sure yet how long the chunks will be - I need to type it (it's a longhand manuscript!), and that will involve some editing and rewriting, I expect.
I was a bit more interested in the timing of posting each subsequent part.
Good to see you revisiting LJ. In some respects, I can see the relative quiet around here these days as a mixed blessing. Less chance of bad actors spamming the place, although there was one friend who suffered a hacking of their account within the last week or so. So I'd see the Captcha measure as an endurable inconvenience.
