Summary: Sarah arrives randomly at Chuck's door at 12:00am one night.
Author's Note: I love these two. I really hope we get to see the deeper side to Sarah soon and see Chuck help her come out of her shell, as I think he could do. This is along the line of that idea, and there's humor and fluff and I hope you like it. :)
He's brushing his teeth when he hears a knock at the door. Neglecting to spit, he makes his way to the door and is startled by the sight of Sarah standing in front of him. He says her name and accidentally sprays some toothpaste on her Weinerlicious uniform. She looks down and just smiles as he apologizes.
He's leading her inside and he's confused because it's 12:00 am and she's never just shown up in the middle of the night like this. He thinks maybe there's a spy emergency or something and thinks he's way to tired for that right now.
But Sarah doesn't say anything about any escaped criminals or bombs or anything. She just quietly walks around the living room, admiring the random knick knacks Ellie has bought and decorated the place with. She says something about just being in the neighborhood, which doesn't sound right because she lives miles away, and stops, staring at him.
It's then he realizes he has toothpaste foam running down his chin. He excuses himself and runs to the bathroom as smoothly as he can. He spits out the remaining foam and rinses quickly, trying not to gargle too loud.
When he comes out, Sarah isn't in the living room anymore. He notices his bedroom door open, and goes inside to see Sarah sitting on his bed.
He tries to calm himself and forget the fact that there is a super hot girl sitting on his bed in a skimpy, yet campy, outfit. He goes to lean against the door frame but misses and successfully catches himself.
Sarah's bouncing on the bed a little and smiling. She says something about him having a nice bed just as he asks why she's there. They go back and forth interrupting each other before she says she thought she'd just come check up on him.
He sits on the bed next to her, the old mattress dipping so he's touching her leg with his own, and says he doesn't need checking up on, with a coy smile on his face.
She smiles back at him and he feels his breath hitch at the sight of her this close. Her eyes are a deep hazel brown and her lips are a light pink. She looks a bit flushed and he's not sure why, it's always cold because Ellie likes it that way. He hears her say that she knows he doesn't need checking up on, but still.
He sees that look in her eyes that tells him whatever reason she has for being here, he doesn't need to know. He's come to know that look quite well over the past few months.
When Sarah Walker first came into his life, or walked into the Buy More, he didn't know what to think of her. And he still didn't even after all this time. They didn't talk much. No, they talked a lot. Just not about anything important. She never mentioned Bryce again after his funeral, never talked about her family or her personal life. If they were on a stake out they usually played I Spy or something equally boring. Every now and then they'd talk about action movies. Sarah didn't watch much tv or see too many movies, but the girl could quote almost every line from any Jean Claude Van Dam movie. Sometimes he thought she was more masculine than him.
Sarah was a real mystery. Even now, with her inches away from him on his bed, he couldn't get a read on what she was thinking.
She shifts around, her eyes gazing around the room, never stopping on one thing. He wonders if she's really here to... And thinks maybe he should make a move. But not here. Not now. Not with his Spiderman action figure right in front of them on his dresser watching or with Sarah in her fluffy skirt with mustard and toothpaste stains on it.
His heartbeat increases and he starts to sweat. He jumps up from the bed awkwardly, making Sarah bounce a little. He asks if she'd like something to drink, and when she says yes he sighs, relieved to have something to do so he can think.
He tries to be as quiet as he can so he doesn't wake up Ellie or Captain Awesome. That's the last thing he needs right now.
He opens the fridge and frantically looks around for something he thinks Sarah would like. They don't have any wine, if she even likes that much. Coke, no, Sunny D, no. Juice box? He resists the urge to slam the fridge door closed.
He decides on ice water. Nothing immature or wimpy about ice water. It's just water and frozen... water.
As he gets the ice, his mind wanders. He suddenly remembers a random memory from a while ago. He can see it like a still picture in his mind. He'd told a joke or something, and Sarah laughed, her face curling into a big smile and her eyes lighting up. Not one of those 'secret spy persona' smiles, but a real, genuine smile. He could see it in her eyes, and the corners of her mouth lifted up as far as they could go. Her forehead wrinkled a little and her eyebrows were raised. It had made his insides melt, as corny as that sounded. And he'd thought of it for a while afterward. She just didn't smile many of those smiles.
He picks up the cold glasses and sighs, stretches his neck and makes his way back to his room.
He arrives to see Sarah laid out on his bed, sleeping. Her skirt fluttered out on the sides and her messy pigtails on his pillow. He feels something, like he's trapped in time and all he can live is this moment. The most beautiful girl he's ever seen laying on his bed in a Weinerlicious uniform, sleeping peacefully.
He sets the glasses on his dresser and stands in front of his bed, staring at Sarah. He doesn't really know what to do. He's not going to wake her up, no way. She looks too tired and too comfortable and too... something. He can't sleep in his own bed, obviously, and he's not going to let Ellie find him on the couch in the morning.
He slowly walks to his closet and pulls out two blankets and a pillow. He gently spreads one blanket over Sarah and throws the other onto the floor. He turns out the light and kicks off his shoes, getting down on the floor.
He sits there, feeling a bit stupid peeking over the bed at her. The light of the moon shining in from his window lights her face, and she looks so serene. He smiles. He says goodnight even though she won't hear it and lays down to sleep.
........
He wakes up feeling stiff, his neck sore and his arm underneath his back. For a moment, he doesn't remember where he is and thinks maybe he's died because he's staring into a black hole. No, that's beneath his bed. He's on the floor, right. Because he can't use his bed because...
He remembers Sarah and sits up quickly, and yep, she's there. It wasn't a dream. Her hair is even messier and she's curled up under the blanket tightly. The light in the room is still dim so he thinks it must still be before 6:00 am.
He sees her body stir, and he freezes, feeling like she'll wake up mad because he didn't wake her up to go home or something. But as her eyes flutter open and finally come to rest on his, she smiles. One of those real, genuine smiles that makes his stomach do flips.
“Hi.” She says, getting up to lean on her elbow. There's a light in her eyes he's never seen before.
He smiles back at her, definitely a real smile. “Hi.”
And when she reaches for his hand and pulls him up to lay on the bed, he knows this is real. And when she kisses him with a giggle behind her mouth, her lips curving into a smile against his, he knows it's genuine. And Sarah Walker doesn't seem like such a mystery after all.
