This entry is part 52 of 52 in the series 365 Challenge
So characters have habits, ways they interact with certain people and situations, things they do and like to do, stories and histories together. I've known a lot of my characters' for a long time but getting them all into fic is interesting, particularly for the ones I don't know that for.

Kingdoms and Thorn Ficlet: Working Up the Nerve scribble_myname October 15 2013, 22:01:29 UTC
Anna read over his shoulder when Lightsculpt finally opened the latest envelope. It was different from the others, a softer, smoother paper and a different size. He read it, then read it again.

"They've invited you to lunch." Anna prodded him gently in the back. It was quite obvious what the words said. "You should go."

He took a deep breath, folded the card, and tossed it and envelope onto the living room table.

"You know you want to," she prodded, this time verbally.

He looked at her sketches on the mantelpiece, the sand they'd tracked in through the back door, the potted white flowers only Anna knew the name of-anywhere but the invitation.

Hesitation. She snuggled against his shoulder and tucked her hand into his. "You really should go," she said softly, not making light of this.

He let out a sigh he hadn't known he was holding and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. "Not without you."

Of course he needs her to go with him.

I don't think she would have let him go without her, though. :)

I think you're right on both counts. :)

:)

Does the role reverse with her family? Does she have family out there?

A/N: Good question. Anna? Also, chains are dog tags.

They didn't stay together when they broke out. They split in groups and crashed in safe places to bunk down until they could truly erase whatever trail they ended up making ( ... )

Poor Anna. Still, in some ways, it's nicer for the family than not knowing for all those years.

Still... She does have Lightsculpt's family. She can be a part of that with him, so that's something.

And he needs to give her another hug, even if she got one from Time Weaver here.

Yeah, her pestering him makes so much more sense now. I sense total adoption of them on her part coming soon. :grins:

They are a huggy couple. I'm sure that won't be hard to get in there somewhere.

Yeah, it does. She wanted him to find his family so she could be a part of it, too.

Maybe you should do a collection "A Hug for all Occasions" or something. :)

Ooh, I know. That should be some kind of ficathon thing. Everyone writes a story about hugs for all occasions.

I'm not big on organizing ficathons, or I might be more interested.

Yeah. I was just thinking of how you got that piece from in_the_blue and you were going to do a piece and then if everyone did one about hugs...

I wouldn't want to organize it, though, either. So maybe just a loose collection of pieces about hugs is good.

Lightsculpt wasn't sure at first what had woken him. Then he realized the bed was empty on the other side, cool air sliding in between the sheets where his wife had been when he lay down ( ... )

It would be hard to know what to say in that circumstance, but he's there for her, and that's what matters.

:warm fuzzies: I wouldn't know what to say either in that situation. Sometimes that's all you can do, be there for someone.

Yeah, sometimes it is. And it's good that she's got him and he has her. :)
