This entry is part 52 of 52 in the series 365 Challenge
So characters have habits, ways they interact with certain people and situations, things they do and like to do, stories and histories together. I've known a lot of my characters' for a long time but getting them all into fic is interesting, particularly for the ones I don't know that for.

Kingdoms and Thorn Ficlet: Comfort Objects scribble_myname September 23 2013, 15:30:35 UTC
A/N: So… I know this was supposed to be about tastes, but coffee being the scalding thing it is and Rachelle being the vanilla girl she is, I went with the preposition in another sense.

“Hey,” Rachelle said softly. “Scoot over.”

Since the mug in her hand was literally steaming, Justus decided that scooting over was in his best interest and gave her room to settle in beside him on the couch. Except she didn’t quite. She sat beside him and threw her legs over his, then tucked a blanket in on top and pulled her twenty pound grey cat into her lap.

“He needs to go on a diet,” Justus noted, feeling a little crushed and assessing Sophocles critically.

The cat stared back at him with a baleful amber eye.

Rachelle shrugged and sipped her coffee. “You’re comfortable.”

“To sit on? Shut up.” He rolled his eyes and wrapped one arm around her, surprised when she leaned into him.

“You are,” she said simply.

Sophocles purred.

Hehe. I don't mind that it's not about tastes. Not a bit. :)

This is cute. There might need to be more stories about people being used as chairs or sitting in laps, too. Hmm.

And there should be stories about Sophocles on a diet...

Of course, the diet wouldn't help. Sophocles is just a big cat. It's the breed. :grins:

I like curling up together. It's just something sweet to me. Hm... :eyes other couples to impose upon:

Sounds like some cats I know.

Curling up together is very sweet. It's comfortable. It's trust and support and quiet and all kinds of good things.

A/N: Post-marriage. Rachelle didn’t give up her apartment and doesn’t exactly consider Justus’ place hers at this point. Also, I need a cat icon.

“Justus!” Rachelle yanked Sophocles’ food bowl away from her protesting cat. “You cannot feed the cat raw spinach. It’s not good for him ( ... )

Lol.

Yeah, good luck with that one, Justus. No one moves cats when they have claimed you at night. Try sleeping with four of them.

Cat icon. Yes. That is a must. Hmm. It's a shame I only have two drawings of Katya. I've got plenty of pictures of real life cats, though. Including, a bit ironically, a cat named Buddha who is a grey/black tabby who is big by nature, not by fat, lol.

Seven Days Ficlet: The Joys of Motherhood scribble_myname October 7 2013, 19:08:59 UTC
Sheila Bryn had curled up in the big armchair in the living room at the end of a very long day. It involved exploding spaghetti, pink laundry, a cat stuck in the dryer, and a little boy battle definitively lost to a skunk. All those pre-wedding stories hadn't actually painted an accurate picture of the "joys" of motherhood ( ... )

Well, that's definitely motherly love, being able to hold a child that smells of skunk.

Then again, she'd have to be an amazing person to cope with Wesley's memory loss as well as she does.

There's a reason I never felt I had quite the right emotional fortitude for motherhood.

They got it honest. :grins:

Yeah. I always think that when I'm babysitting. That "at least I can give them back to Mommy" that's such a comfort... Even when I think I want my own kids, I know I'm not ready for them.

:) They're just the family that Wesley needs.
