Angst, Fluff, and Inferno

This entry is part 48 of 51 in the series 365 Challenge
Let's take the third first. Overhauling the story from inferno, aka "Dowse and Bleed," left me feeling drained and exhausted, but it's out to beta and may she not find any more structural issues that need addressing. For that matter, may I not!

On angst: I write a lot of it. I know that. I've ( Read more... )

“Battery Acid,” Justus voice came from the laundry room. “What happened to my shirt?”

Rachelle shooed Sophocles the cat ahead of her and leaned against the doorframe. Justus was frowning at his newly shredded sweater, one of several he’d brought when he decided, unnecessarily, to crash at her apartment and keep an eye on her.

“You’re not blind.” She crossed her arms.

He grimaced, remembering that she responded to the name he chose. Then he looked at Sophocles and groaned.

Rachelle flashed him a smile. “He treated it more kindly than my jacket a month ago.”

“Sophocles...”

Sophocles meowed unrepentantly.

Lol. Poor Justus. He lost his shirt, and not for the reason he would have enjoyed.

So... is the cat a shredder all the time, or is he perhaps jealous of Justus?

A/N: With apologies to Thomas Gray for the title.

"Why didn't I have you declawed while I had the chance?" Rachelle muttered darkly as twenty pounds of grey feline sized up her lap for colonization.

Her options on the couch for protection were slim: Justus' pullover sweater-one of her favorites on him, or her own thin white button-up. Thick or thin, the choice was obvious.

She yanked over the sweater in the nick of time, just before Sophocles pounced, tested the material, then curled up onto her stomach, tearing the clothing until it was sufficiently comfortable.

"Crazy cat," she griped at him.

Undisturbed and thoroughly content, Sophocles purred.

Lol.

I think this cat needs more drabbles.

Then I had a really crazy thought about him meeting Chocolate, and I think I will quit while I am behind.

“You got me a kitten?” Rachelle asked, incredulous.

Said kitten mewed plaintively and nuzzled her hand. Rachelle groaned. Housewarming was not supposed to be this problematic.

Red Wolf laughed softly at her. “He’s from an affectionate breed.”

She hmphed.

“What are you going to call him?” Sear asked, daring to pet the offending creature.

Rachelle resigned herself to the inevitable. “Sophocles.”

Red Wolf blinked. “As in tragedies?”

The rest of her team chuckled, but Rachelle disagreed.

“As in, that cat is doomed to the indoors the rest of his life. He’s just going to have to get philosophical about it.”

Lol.

I'm not so sure he did get philosophical about being indoors. :)

Never!

LOL I love him anyway. Rachelle simply accepts that she's stuck with him. It's an affectionate put-up-with situation between those two.

:)

That's kind of how Rachelle acts with more than just the cat...

I've rarely heard her nailed so well in a line.

Kingdoms and Thorn/Fire and Water Fanfic: Pets of the Unusually Gifted scribble_myname September 9 2013, 16:30:28 UTC
The annual meeting of the Pets of the Unusually Gifted support group gathered in an unidentified location last Tuesday to chat, complain, console, and otherwise discuss their difficult owners.

Chocolate was looking rather svelte, if a bit singed around the edges. “Sometimes,” she admitted, “I don’t know what’s wrong with that Enya.”

Sophocles, another cat, empathized. “One time, Rachelle went all fire-queen on me and I had to get a summer cut in winter.”

“What did you do?” Chocolate demanded.

“I tried to go outside. I shed cat hair on her jeans for that one.”

Chocolate preened. “I had kittens.”

Lol. This is awesome. :)

I think Chocolate wins that round, though.

Her offspring... Well, I could see each of them being just like her, and with the elementals around... The results could be terrible. Funny, maybe, but I don't think Cress' kitten would ever forgive him for naming it after a fish...

Now I want the kittens. Seriously, he named it after a fish? :giggles and cackles:

Oh yeah. Sophocles let Rachelle know he didn't like being thoroughly singed. Chocolate wreaked revenge by proliferation and raising an army. Beautifully done. :applause:

Lol. I'll see what I can do. Right now the end of the story has me really annoyed, so I don't know if I can manage fluff/funny with them, but I did have a partial start come to me. Enya was lecturing Cress on why he couldn't name his cat after a fish, and... I think I might be able to drabble that one.

Yep. And that army... I pity the poor humans...

Kingdoms and Thorn/Fire and Water Fanfic: And Then the Deluge scribble_myname September 9 2013, 20:48:58 UTC
A/N: Definitely inspired by A Cat Named after a Fish

“He should have named me Noah,” Clown Fish wailed piteously. The poor kitten did look like someone had done an admirable job of drowning him.

“Cress should have a bell,” agreed Ember, another of Chocolate’s kittens. “If he’s feeling under the weather, it should ring and tell us to get out before we all are.”

Sophocles had not yet stopped trying to groom the kitten dry. He was rather bedraggled himself, missing a noticeable chunk of fur out of his bruised tail and half of his hair standing on end.

But as he pointed out, “At least children aren’t fatal.”

Lol.

Someone should have suggested Noah to him instead, but the poor cat got stuck with Clown Fish.

Cress does need a bell.

And lol, poor Sophocles. :)
