The book she's reading is a nice touch, goes back to the other story with the bedtime story.
(I admit, I know nothing of who Shift's daughter becomes, but I do know an Elizabeth that goes by Bets, (Betsy) and I almost think that could fit Shift's daughter, but like I said, I don't know her that well.)

Watcher once said that there were only two ways left to reach Shift: the daughter in her or the mother. In those two areas, Shift utterly excels.
I'm leaning toward letting her change her name as she ages. Of all names, Elisabeth does have a billion nicknames.
