Dragonclaws has been kind enough to set me straight on the stitches thing - don't clean them with rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide, guys! - and I'll fix it when I have some time, probably Thursday.

LEILA!
*starts bawling and wants to run and hug her*
What has that bastard DONE, oh my God, tell me she gets her art back, PLEASE!

Your answers are a) tried his best to break her, and b) eventually.
Yeah, Leila needs all the hugs.
*Sneaks back into cave.*

Leila's husband being in Iraq is a pretty good reason for him to be overseas. Geoff seemed like he was very honourable.
Your portrayal of Leila is wonderful. She stays away from people who could help her to protect them, not out of pride. I think they would help her, if they knew what was going on.
I love the way Allie and Lindsay take care of Leila. The backstory development is also great!
Oh, are they going to the ball next? That could be very interesting...
Part 2 of 'Shifting Colours' is on my LiveJournal, if you want to check it out!
P.S. This is a strange question, but what's Officer Rayne's first name?

I'm glad that Geoff and Mark made sense to you - working in their motivations and everything thirdhand was kind of tricky. I needed both a motivation for Leila's husband to marry her on a rather short schedule, and a way to get keep him out of contact for a bit. Geoff I had free reign on, given that his only mention in canon is his death.
I did some research, and I'm really glad that Leila's motivations make sense. Protecting people by staying away from them was what seemed to fit her character and her actions within canon best. As for Allie and Lindsay taking care of her, I went with what felt natural (and took a cue from the comm - collectively we've been pretty willing to wrap her up in blankets and feed her soup since the moment she appeared. :D )
Ooh, reading time!
I've debated for a while, and Officer Rayne's first name is Emily. She's also in her late thirties/early forties, if that helps. :)

Poor Leila, she doesn't deserve this nor does any woman. All I wanna do is just cuddle her and make her feel better. Although, I'm wondering how the books justified her getting into mental institution? Something tells me it's probably gonna make me be filled with rage.
Anyway, did you write an original story with Allie and Lindsey? Sorry if I can't remember Lindsey's original name, I'm kinda bad with names. If you did write a story, could you tell me where I could find it? I'm kinda interested. Anyway, this is great!

(Unfortunately, there is nothing he has done in this story that isn't directly supported by FSOG canon. If it isn't stated or obvious that he's done it to Leila, he's done it to someone else... and admitted it, usually.)
According to E.L. James, Hellspawn called his therapist and the result was that Leila was institutionalized against her will. I kid you not, this is how the book goes. It's terrifying. The only way I can make it make sense in the real world is that many documents were falsified and that she was kidnapped and imprisoned there.
The original story with Allie and Lindsay (yes, that is her original name) is actually still under construction. I went ahead and wrote a mystery novel. The editing continues to this day. So sadly, there's nothing loose on the internet for you to read at the moment. :)
