Chapter Five: To Catch a Shadow
Contents and Warnings Chapter 4: A Great Sadness On EarthThe process of sharing what we knew with the Seattle Police and the opening of an investigation can best be described as necessary tedium. It required several statements, which included trips to the Seattle Police Station, and before we knew it, the case

"** If I fucked up the French accent in any way, assume it’s because it’s fake. J (Sub note: I know that “Franco” sounds Italian and Ana said his accent was Italian, but 1) Ana is dumber than a bucket of bricks, 2) I desperately wanted this easter egg before I got to the heavy stuff with Leila. Anyone who recognizes what crossover character Franco probably is gets a cookie! [And everybody who already knew gets a cookie anyway.])"
Um, I don't get it. Unless it's Thomas Raith?

We're already shipping Wizards in from other realities, so why shouldn't Franco be Thomas Raith? I think I erred on the side of too subtle, but given that Thomas is working at Esclava and doing lots of hair, he shouldn't be terribly hungry.
Officer Rayne is free for spitefics! After all, that is the purpose she was created for...
Glad you liked it!

Leila seems very tense around men.
Franco is a Wizard? Good twist! For a moment I thought he was Grey in disguise; you got me worried for the girls a bit there. You know you're involved in a story when you worry for the characters.
Please may I borrow Officer Rayne for a 'Shifting Colours' installment?

Yeah, nobody can really blame Lelia for it, though.
The easter egg was open ended. Franco could be a wizard, might be a mage, most people are of the opinion that he's Thomas Raith in disguise... and that has to be a disguise, doesn't it? :D (I'm glad you worried for everyone, but the idea that he was Grey in disguise didn't occur to me, since I'm trying to follow Canon and in canon we see Grey and Franco in the same room, having a conversation.)

I can't blame her in the slightest.
It's just that in that Fifty Shades Darker chapter, it said Franco was short and...well, six feet isn't short. And when it said he had grey eyes, his accent disappeared and Lindsay couldn't look away from him, I thought 'Uh-oh'.
I did post the second chapter of 'Shifting Colours' to twispitefic, but it hasn't come up.

... I really need to move my ass and get this on twispitefic.

Anyways, back to this chapter. You know, I suspected Franco was a mage too, since Lindsay seemed to be falling under his spell. Maybe that's why Allie was so hostile towards him, haha.
"Thomas is working at Esclava and doing lots of hair, he shouldn't be terribly hungry."
Um......... this is embarrassing to ask, but... does he eat hair? :X (I'm guessing you guys had some background knowledge on the characters? :P)

I deliberately kept Franco vague: if you don't know The Dresden Files, a very good series, then it's easier for him to just possibly be another mage. Allie gets on with other mages like a cat gets on with strange other cats. However, some of the people who are doing the sporking/summary of the source material, Fifty Shades of Grey, thought that the book would be much improved if Franco, the Flamboyantly Gay European hairdresser, was actually Thomas Raith, an incubus from The Dresden Files who masquerades as a flamboyantly gay french hairdresser in order to feed without having to go the whole seduction route and possibly put his partners in danger. (Incubuses can, in that universe, feed just a little off somebody when they give them a shampoo, so with a regular day job that equates to some harmless snacking, Thomas keeps himself pretty well fed.)
It's a good series. I'm not certain it can be gotten over where you live, though. :(
