Ritsuka put his head in his hands, the perfect picture of a person who has been told that the world is ending. They’re gone. Gone, gone, gone, gone, GONE…
“It’s not that bad,” Soubi said cheerfully, his closed-eyed smile doing nothing to help Ritsuka’s mood. In fact, it was doing the exact opposite.
“This is all your fault! Soubi, you big idiot!” Ritsuka yelled, emphasizing his words with repeated punches at the blonde’s shoulder.
Soubi took a sip of his coffee, unfazed by Ritsuka’s vain attempts to bruise him. “Ritsuka’s so cute when he’s near to tears.”
“Jerk,” Ritsuka muttered, flopping back onto his bed when he realized that all his punching was getting him nowhere. “And how many times do I have to tell you not to drink coffee while you’re sitting on my bed?! If you spill one drop of that on my sheets, my mom will throw a fit-”
“In this kind of situation, coffee stains are the least of your worries,” Soubi interrupted smoothly, his eyes opening just a fraction in an alluring stare that never failed to make Ritsuka shiver involuntarily.
Ritsuka quickly looked away, crimson spilling across his cheeks. “S-stop looking at me like that!”
“Like what?” Soubi asked amusedly.
“Like…like some old pervert!” Ritsuka retorted, reddening even more when his eyes met Soubi’s again.
Soubi’s expression reverted to his trademark fox-like smile. “Ah, you’re even cuter when you’re blushing…”
“And stop talking like one, too,” Ritsuka snapped, glaring at him. Something niggled at the back of his mind. “Don’t change the subject! How can I go to school tomorrow without them?!”
The intense stare that Soubi directed at him made him shrink back among the sheets. “You shouldn’t worry too much. It’s just a part of life, Ritsuka.” He placed his mug onto the bedside table. The sudden seriousness of his tone unnerved Ritsuka slightly.
“A p-part of life?”
“Aa.” Soubi held out his arms and Ritsuka crawled over to him like a magnet, snuggling into the blonde’s chest. So cute… He wrapped an arm around Ritsuka’s waist and placed his other hand on top of the brunette’s head. “It’ll be just fine. Pretty soon, your other classmates will start showing up at school without them either!”
Ritsuka didn’t look so convinced. “But…sensei still has her ears, doesn’t she?”
Soubi sweatdropped. “Right… Don’t you think that’s cool? You beat her to it!” He was all smiles again.
“I still want them!” Ritsuka’s eyes brimmed with tears. He looked so adorable that Soubi had to use all of his self-restraint not to molest him on the spot.
“If you’re so uncomfortable without them, you can just wear these fake ears,” Soubi suggested, holding up a furry cat-ear band.
Ritsuka took it from him. “Will this really work?” he sniffed.
No. “Of course it will!” Soubi answered brightly.
“Liar.” Ritsuka glared at him again.
Soubi avoided Ritsuka’s eyes and scanned the room. “Never mind that. Hey, why don’t we take some pictures? To commemorate Ritsuka’s first night to lose his…ears.” He grabbed the camera lying on Ritsuka’s desk, keeping it well out of the protesting boy’s reach.
“No way!” the panicked Ritsuka jumped up and down, trying to snatch the offending item out of the blonde’s hand. The blanket he had wrapped around himself slipped slightly and exposed his left shoulder.
Soubi smirked lazily at him, eliciting a full-alarm blush from Ritsuka. “Just one picture… come to think of it, you look even cuter without your cat ears.”
“Give it back! Pervert!”
“Come on, Ritsuka, I thought you liked making memories.”
“…Shut up.”
