Hiya, guys. This is Lady Nighteyes bringing you "Let's Play Suikoden Tierkreis!" Last time Sieg and Marica were rescued by a mystery person, and I stopped mid-scene to create an artificial cliffhanger. Shall we see who it was?

Well, there's five mainline Suikoden games, Suikoden Tactics, and this one, each with over 108 characters and not too much of an overlap in the cast. That's 700+ characters to name, so I don't think it's entirely surprising that they get a little ridiculous sometimes. :::PPP To me, the silliest part with Chrodechild's name is that the three Blades we see the most of are her, her lieutenant Meruvis (which is "Melvis" half the time in the voice-acting), and a raging tsundere named... Roberto?

Way late comment, but it's actually the name of an obscure early Catholic saint and a common name for Frankish queens of the time. Several other characters related to her have names from the same historical period and location. Someone in Japan did their research.

Maybe it's just me, but the animated cutscenes seem to get more cringeworthily animesque each time, even getting past the fact that I find dubs hard to take seriously. That and I figured out the pattern of them being an alternative to in-game special effects... Anyway. Very good point about the two new characters' reversal of what aren't just JRPG clichés, and it's nice to see more of the bigger picture in the plot and the Order's enemies being a bit more proactive, too. So points to Suikoden Tierkreis for that.

My votes on the castle and army names remain pretty much the same... choose whatever you find most interesting.

The anime-ness doesn't really bother me- the corny voice-acting does, but I'd rather have that overlaid on an animated scene than on the cruddy little 3-D models. And yes, it's a pretty consistent pattern that they break out the anime whenever something needs to be more impressive than little Lego people and flashes of light can handle.

Re: cliche-reversal: one of the things that makes me like this game in spite of its many flaws is that this isn't an isolated thing. It has quite the diverse cast, including a lot of people from several different ethnic groups, and treats a short-haired, practically-dressed soldier like Chrodechild as just as feminine as, say, Erin. It also has probably about as many fanservicey guys as girls, and has more ladies who aren't conventionally attractive than I've seen in most games (though the base prettiness level is still high; this is a JRPG, after all :::PPP ( ... )
