Suikoden Tierkreis, Part 7

Jul 07, 2013 11:30

Welcome back to "Let's Play Suikoden Tierkreis!" with Lady Nighteyes and her weird sense of humor. I legitimately don't think I've ever played a single JRPG outside the Shin Megami Tensei series that didn't have at least one underground level, and this game's is coming up in this update. Shall we get going?

Underground levels are kind of justifiable... we expect a game like an RPG, the plots of which tend to be world-spanning, to venture into many different kinds of geography. Ditto a lot of games, actually. Variety is the spice of life, even if the underground graphics are the ones that tend to get reused over and over again.

Shell Baboons... don't have shells and aren't baboons?!

For some reason, every single word Erin speaks strikes me as untrustworthy. I know she's on our side and everything, but she just seems too... cheerful! It's the perpetually closed eyes that do it.

So why did Macoute put his cache in a room right next to an angry monster worm? And why was the elevator at the bottom of the shaft when there was nobody there? Did Macoute take the elevator down one day, throw some more jewels on the pile, then walk past the worm, climb all the way through the mine and past the monsters, and then leave knowing he'd have to do it all again in reverse next time he wanted to gaze at his gold pile?

I'm not saying they're not justifiable, I'm just saying there always, ALWAYS is one. And hey, better than a sewer level.

Monsters in this game are so weird because so many of them are named after real animals they bear no resemblance to. Especially the gazelles. I really wanted an enemy bestiary or something so I could figure out what the hell was going on with some of 'em.

Watcha talking about, Erin's smile is adorable. ;;;)))

I... actually had not considered why the elevator was down there. I mean, angry monster worm I can understand: he doesn't want people stealing his loot. Maybe last time he ordered someone to carry an armful of cash down there they got killed by the worm? :::PPP

Some possible explanations to the elevator: Macoute has a special key that allows him to control its rise and fall from either end, so he always sends it back to the bottom on its own to protect his stash before he leaves. Alternatively, it broke because of the worm and plummeted to the bottom sometime while he was away?

But if it broke, why could Sieg and company take it back up with no problem? I prefer the "Macoute always sends it to the bottom afterwards just to be a jackass" explanation, personally. ;;;)))
