Tales of More Scrabble Woe...

Another monthly Dallas one-day is in the books...and once again, it wasn't my day to do well.  While I had more than my fair share of the power tiles - something that had been a frequent deficit during much of 2012 - what I had was a big shortage of was games that fell within the realm of my skill set.  In a typical tournament I normally have one ( Read more... )

Yay, I finally found a scrabble person! Hi, Jim! This is Tasha. I played Chris S once at club and he's really good at extensions and finding longer words through disconnected tiles. I remember he chickened out on a nice nine: STYMIEING.

In my last tournament in November, I also had the experience of having a loss as my best played game. I think it's something psychological: desperation can do strange things to your game.

In a club game, I was beating one of our intermediate players by about 200 points. Near the end of the game, she plays (S)EPAR(A)TES through a TWS. I still won the game, but she closed the gap a bit. I complimented her at the end and she says, "I don't even know how I saw that!" And I said, "You saw it because you were losing."
