We overestimate the risks of consuming illicit drugs while greatly underestimating the risks of the legal variety

Good article... I notice this kind of hypocrisy all the time. Also, the ridiculous stereotype that drug users are drug abusers. That's like saying everyone who has a few beers on a friday is a raging alcoholic.

heh - 'as speakers denounced the evils of drugs and vowed to continue the fight for "a drug-free world" - an official goal of the UN - most of the people nodding their heads and applauding vigorously were buzzed on a drug that has killed far more people than all the illicit drugs combined.'

I've never understood this. I've seen people get WAY more messed up, and violent, from drinking than from drugs. I really think that it should ALL be legal and acceptable, or all NOT. But I don't think it'll ever happen.

Yep - and while I'm not a fan of crack I know plenty of people who use it occasionally and still manage to have their shit together, are not addicts, etc. Something like crack is of course more dangerously addictive than alcohol but it stil comes down to that the crackheads that come to mind are not an accurate representation of it's users.. they're just the addicts, and the only ones you'll even know are doing it.
