Part of what made the 1982 version of “The Thing” cool was the way it started: opening shot of an Antarctic landscape, a screaming Norwegian in a helicopter firing a rifle at an innocent dog making its way through mounds of snow to find solace at a nearby camp of Americans. I was wary. Thank you for confirming my suspicions. Will I want to gouge my eyes out with a spoon over the DVD version? We shall see. Will I go rent the old version again. yes.

I used to see it like 15 times as it was a staple of the late night TV long time ago, when I did not have a cable.
