Slam Criticism VII: The Yawning

Jun 09, 2009 06:02

A comment I made over here about the recent spate of attention (read, criticism) Slam has received. I post it here because I won't be doing a column about it because my whole poetry career is proof that the criticism is stale and uninformed.
With footnotes!

Is it that point in the cycle again? Man, let me break out my shroud and ( Read more... )

We're dead if you're in New York, but east of that it's just zombie-esque.

"I am working on a column about a very specific aspect of this issue, but I have to be very careful. It could get me killed...by POETS, no less."

Dude, on a scale of one to ten, that threat registers at... wait a a minute... I have a team of Math Majors working on a hypothetical value low enough. Can we use negative negative numbers? Like "-whothefuckcaresjillion" ?

How come mostly men are being quoted in the articles about the death of slam?

Joe Biden never would have put on a poetry jam.

News cycle ending in three, two...

Joe Biden is also happy with good ol' American Mustard on his burger... oh, wait, did I miss that cycle?

That reminds me, I have to try Five Guys Burgers soon.

Because chicks got their own slam now, so they don't care.

Oh snap!

Seriously, it's because chicks are stoopid.

When the Greeks came up with an alphabet I believe it was Socrates who protested saying that being able to write down the stories that people used to have to memorize will make minds lazy and unable to analyze the meaning of the stories. 1000's of years later people opine that the tv and internet will lead to poeple not needing to learn how to read and not reading will make minds lazy and unable to really grast information.

We are either imporving, degrading or some sort of mix of the both.

In the end, people hate change, and like to cry that the sky is falling, but only when they are not the change or when they are not strong enough to stop the change.
