LITERALLY got in off the road just now.  Very tired.  Recommend Boston (Cambridge) the city highly; do not recommend the Boston to Columbus drive, no matter how many breaks you take.

Will post more later, but wanted to record the setlists.  Thanks to Rewriting Ovid, I also have a new chapbook - "Fighting Weight" - that features all of my poems  ( Read more... )

Obama asked Elizabeth Alexander to write an occasion poem in a few weeks and she came through to the best of her abilities. Her elocution was in the style of the poem ("Each day we go about our business"), matched the line breaks and theme of the the poem ("Someone is stitching up a hem, darning/a hole") and maintained the meter she was trying to execute ("On the brink, on the brim, on the cusp").

C. I thought it was boring at the time it was read. Looking at the text, I think it is ridden with cliches.

Although the poem looked okay on paper, I thought the delivery was AWFUL! The problem with the poem was that I thought it did have a lot of cliches, that it wasn't read well at all, and that, even given that the poet was chosen only a month or so ago, it wasn't a poem that was memorable or that I would necessarily want to hear read again. I'm leaning very much towards C at this point in time, because it didn't mark me at all, and I tried very hard to allow it to just sink in and resonate. I got nothing.
