Sigh. Another really good one to file away and write about months to years from now.

When Alyx was about 6, a few days before Christmas I'd finally gotten enough money together to buy him new Nintendo video game cartridges. One of them was Super Mario Brothers 3 and we couldn't wait for Christmas morning to play it with him. He'd outgrown the Seseme Street stuff and this was his first wave of "real" gaming. We were really poor then and living in a shitty neighborhood. When we got home from shopping with we found our apartment had been broken into. The Nintendo and all the games were stolen. That really really really sucked. We couldn't get a new one until the next summer. Alyx is 22 now I'm still not ready to write about it.
