Dear E,

Please forgive my delay in repsonding to your letter, in which  you wrote:

i have a question to ask you about Nationals. i made the XXXXX team this year...YAY! thats right, this year the badge around my neck will say poet and not volunteer. my question to you is this:

HOW DO I GET RID OF THE BUTTERFLIES THAT HAVE FOUND A HOME IN MY STOMACH!!!

As one who suffers from more than my fair share of stage fright, I really dug this. A bit in the way of practical (but disgusting) advice that I've taken to heart, though:
I never eat or drink before a show. I also take a huge poop right before. It seems to help a lot.

One of the things I teach (and practice) is squeezing and pulling up the bottom of the chair beneath you before you go on. No one around you knows you're doing it but you are releasing some of that nervous energy by flexing muscle. Yup.
