Leaving town this moring early so I can get to Kansas City in time to chill out before the gig. I'll be performing at the very large and hip Association of College Unions International Conference

Have a safe trip and if you've never been to Gates BBQ, you should check it out. Go to the one at 47th and Paseo. It's the original.

Funny coincidence:

I was sitting in my hotel room eating ribs from Gates while I read this comment. Not that particular Gates, but the one in Independence.

I love that place! The ribs are tasty, but I'm partial to the burnt ends, which all of my friends in TX make fun of me for. They say it's the cut of meat that Texans throw away, but man is it finger-lickin' good!

Thank you for this link for this conference that builds in Poetry Slam as well as 3 meals a day. The conference, according to program offerings, seems more geared to Student Affairs/college staff vs. teachers but has an awesome progressive focus that's truly inspiring.

MNary Kim, you'd have loed the slam. It was late at night and the folks were pretty tired and buzzed all at once, so it made for an interetsing slam. I guess there's nothing like being in a hotel in a new city without the kids and spouses to get the party started!
