I think you've nailed the big picture on this one in a way that I missed. I got weirded out by an NPR discussion and couldn't figure out why. It's not just Joe and Fox News, or even those who share their agenda, indulging the chance to say it repeatedly - I don't know which is worse, propoganda or savoring the opportunity to say something taboo via journalism.

News is all about titillation and provocation anymore. Anything to get the traffic hitting their websites to respond so that they can sell more ad space. Rush Limbaugh is a multi-millionaire, not because people agree with him, but because he insitigates people's emotions and tries to pass it off as news. "The EIB Network", and such. My ass. The shit sells ads and conversely sells books. It's no coincidence that every anchor has a book out, and every correspondent, and every reporter. There's money in them thar emotional hills.

I digress. More to your point, the media is kind of stirring it up becaue the people who normally call foul on racism aren't doing anything. Al Sharpton is calm. Obama is forgiving. Black folks at large are like, "So?" Why? Because we say the same shit - minus the words "negro dialect"; we use something like "talk black" or "he can talk white" - every day.
