Meanwhile, the quakes in Reno continue.  I did a little research: no faultlines nearby, no major faultlines nearby, clustered around an peak known for its geothermal activity, decreasing in depth but not intensity... It sure does ( Read more... )

I've been working with GIS data regarding seismicity in NV and have dissagree with you. The entire state of NV is riddled with fault zones, including several faults that run through Reno (according to GIS data from the USGS).

I defer to your superior expertise! But what about the distribution of the quakes, the sustained intensity and steady decrease in depth? That seems very un-faulty to me.

That I will have to defer to you or an earthquake guru. I haven't been keeping up with the Reno story and my earthquake science is very rusty. I have a nice mental image of Reno being shot sky-high by a giant geyser though...
