That's What Little Girls Are Made Of (Elena)lit_chick08September 6 2011, 06:56:08 UTC
Her father used to tease her that girls were made of sugar, spice, and everything nice.
Elena supposes he didn't know she was actually made of Petrova blood, impotent rage, ruined dreams, and secondhand parts.
* * *
Everyone mistakes her empathy for being tenderhearted. She hears them whispering that, when the times comes, she might not be able to do what needs to be done.
Elena loves Stefan with everything she has.
But if it comes down to saving him or saving someone she loves, Elena will not hesitate to plant a stake in his chest.
* * *
She hates. Not the kind of hate most teenagers casually toss around, using the word interchangably with "dislike." No, Elena hates, despises, reviles. It is a physical sensation, a taste in her mouth, a burning in her blood

*FLAILS AT YOU* I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS. It's such a perfect, non-sugarcoated look at Elena and basically, how I see her; everyone looks at her like a prize (like Klaus), or someone to be protected (like Stefan or Damon) but Elena herself is a sum of messy human parts. The line about hatred making Katherine who she is today, and what will it do to Elena is perfect, because I frequently wonder that. And I love that you point out that just because she's empathetic, it doesn't mean she's tenderhearted, because yes *___*
Petrova blood, impotent rage, ruined dreams, and secondhand parts.
I loved this line, especially the impotent rage part because I imagine that's how Elena feels most of the time; angry at something she can't fight because she's not strong enough. And you get super extra bonus points for the story of Judith, and applying it to Elena, MY FACE IS THIS <3____<3

I am so glad you liked it! I feel like Elena's humanity and all the messiness of her is overlooked so much, and I really hope we get to see more of it this season.

Hate had turned Katerina Petrova into Katherine Pierce.
Elena wonders who she will become.
Wow. I can't even tell you what part is my favorite... There is NO WAY Elena doesn't have some darkness in her that she's fighting. And I LOVE the way you worded it here.
Elena supposes he didn't know she was actually made of Petrova blood, impotent rage, ruined dreams, and secondhand parts. YOu gave her the same kind of self hatred that some of the other characters have (and show). And with everything she's been through and the Petrova genes... how could she not have a dark side!
