I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. Except it's in From Dusk Till Dawn fandom but I GO ON BLOGS WITH EXCELLENT FDTD OPINIONS AND THOUGHTS AND THEN I GET SMACKED IN THE FACE WITH ELENA HATRED. And it just baffles me because how are you so on point in one fandom and like the women in that fandom and defend them, and LITERALLY HATE MY FAVE IN ANOTHER? It makes me doubt myself tbh, DO I HAVE TERRIBLE OPINIONS TOO? I hope not wow.

And it's not even legit hatred or criticism, it's petty snipping over her being a terrible protagonist or role model (concern trolling bullshit, basically). like there are some really valid reasons to hate and dislike Elena Gilbert! Like how her white privilege overwhelms and takes advantage of Bonnie's narrative or other poc characters on the show all the time, or violating Jeremy's mind multiple times but the shit I inevitablely find is such bullshit. You know what I read the other day? Apparently Elena is ~not good enough~ for Stefan Salvatore

(oh man, let's be family instead because mine is the exact samesies..)

wrt the Constitution. What frightens me is the people that want to get rid of everything and go back to the original Constitution. Like... these people seriously have no concept of like THREE HUNDRED YEARS. (Also my family is Mormon so the whole 'divine text' thing they feel is absolutely true. to them changing the Constitution is on par with rejecting the King James Bible - as both are ordained by the Big Guy Upstairs. I'M NOT JOKING.)

Ugh the Elena hate. It boggles my mind. And I know Elena haters in real life? I never even know what to say, my mind just completely short-circuits.

A lot of the women I love tend to be widely hated in other places
I'm becoming that person that crashes into new fandom spaces, sees the hate, and then starts shouting OH YEAH, HATE THIS! SHE'S MY NEW FAVORITE! I'm so tired of hate in general that I cling to all the female characters.

Ahaha, I think you're right about controversy being context-dependent. I don't think either of the things you talk about would be controversial at all to your f-list, but I can see how that might not be true elsewhere. So yeah, I agree with you on both counts.

The first one definitely feels controversial, according to most people I know but I am glad other people think it's reasonable. I wanted to talk about something controversial to my flist as a whole! It's just...tbh I'm just barely getting to know my flist again and I have yet to figure out what everyone likes and doesn't like atm just yet. I'll figure it out eventually.

lol, I feel datz about circumstantial controversy -- I don't take well to groupthink anywhere so I'm always taking an aggressive middle stance on most fandom topics in existence. I CHOSE MYSELF A GOOD USERNAME, I DID.

re: America, I don't go there but lol, people who can't get off white dude dick, nothing to see here.

And yes, we've all moved on from TVD, but ELENA GILBERT 4EVER. In general my stance is to like female characters on principle until I'm given reason otherwise, and even with fictional women I find despicable I'm still glad they EXIST, so.

Lol omg I never realized the significance of your username. I was under the impression it was some obscure reference to something but huh. Ever Neutral.

ESSENTIALLY.

SAME on both counts. I know I'm biased to like most female characters because I appreciate them on principle but I don't think that's a BAD bias?

Ooh, I like your Constitution POV.
I'm from Germany, and of course the second amendment thing totally doesn't translate - here we all find it scary - but the general sentiment works.

I know a guy who started studying law (in Germany) because he thought there were a few things wrong with the constitution and that it should be improved. And during his studies, all the other students were all "hail the constitution", "we're studying this to spread the holy rightness that is the constitution" and he felt all out of place. He stopped studying law, then, which to this day strikes me as the completely wrong thing to do. Shouldn't that be even more reason to go into legislature?
