Deidara snorted softly, and as if on a cue, the bird's giant wings flapped open and it took few waggling steps towards the ledge of the roof. Become acclimatized. Whatever. This was child's play ( ... )

On takeoff, Sasori's eyes widened and he grit his teeth; his stomach dropped along with the bird hurtling off the ledge. Years of absolute control were all that kept him from emitting a surprised and humiliating little cry at the sensation, although pushing chakra into his feet to stay attached was a reflex so completely ingrained that he was in no danger of slipping off. To be fair, the last time he'd ridden one of these birds he didn't even have a stomach; he'd just forgotten to properly brace himself for the force of the acceleration ( ... )

A curve forming, Deidara's lips pulled into a real smile, full set of white teeth and squinting eyes. This was why he never questioned his partnership with Sasori, in the end they were too similar not to understand each other. Sasori might seem like an old grumpy man most of times, but there was no mistaking it, he had a taste for thrill, dangerous, crazy thrill that would probably be the end of them both one day ( ... )

Sasori chuckled. "Perhaps because it is one."

This was what he'd missed the most during those long, lonely months. The camaraderie and understanding that existed between them. That irresistible, cheeky grin on Deidara's face once again, rather than the subdued expression he'd worn since his arrival in Anatole. The excitement that Deidara brought to his life, that would otherwise be almost entirely devoted to sitting behind a bench within a workshop; Deidara had been the one who'd truly brought him out of the shell he'd built around himself to shield him from the world.

He studied Deidara's face, not realizing that his expression had softened. His own world had been turned upside down by his partner just as surely as the world surrounding them both had been when the bird had looped up and over. When was it that Sasori had actually become grateful for the disruption of his routine that Deidara provided? It was a startling thought.

"I know you're incapable of resisting a challenge, just like myself."

"Hmph." Deidara shrugged as nonchalantly as he could. The bird's direction wasn't quite horizontal even if it might look like that to most, the angle of the road up so wide that it was hard to say by feel alone. There was no longer a need for extra support and Deidara pulled up to stand straight behind Sasori, hand still comfortably on the redhead's hip ( ... )
