[Kaien knows that Byakuya wants to be alone right now. It's just how he operates, how he handlea it when he runs into a problem more personal than duty and protocol.

And that's just why he's here, unannounced. Despite what he might want, Kaien thinks being alone is the last thing Byakuya needs now. Over the years, Kaien has grown adept at sensing loneliness in others. He'd seem it in Rukia's eyes the first day they'd met, and as time went on in this world, he saw it more and more in Byakuya, underneath that cold, indifferent veneer.

Besides, he'd made a promise with Namine, long ago. He fully intended to keep it. Kaien shifts the box of tea in his hand (a peace offering, for the suddenness ofthis visit), and knocks.]

[He stops what he's doing, in the middle of setting tea on when he hears that knock. He doesn't need to try hard to figure out who it is. No one has his address aside from Kaien and Namine (that would bother to visit) and he's come to the conclusion, no matter how hard he looks, she is not somewhere he can reach. It leaves only one person willing to break into his space in a much louder, more intrusive way than Namine and he does not want it ( ... )
