[Arthur isn't very good at this; the courtly manners and decorum he learned strictly for celebratory feasts are outdated and of no use to him here. Still, he's out of his armour - a rare enough sight - and lounges long-legged and looking unimpressed on a stool, one elbow propped on the counter.

Despite his bored expression, he's enjoying watching the people come and go, the looks on people's faces as they take their wishes to tie upon the tree, and he is content to remain unrecognized - it's that sort of mood.

Still, he does sort of wish there were someone here to tell him what the food and drink is.]

GUESS WHO FORGOT IT WAS HER TURN? yea this one. yetsleeping July 11 2010, 11:06:03 UTC
[Priscilla sits down in a way that's probably best described as perching, since her feet are pressed against the legs of the stool. It's appropriate since she looks a little fluttery.]

We... don't like raw food?

[WHAT. WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN SENJI. Whatever. Arthur tilts his head and gives a sarcastic little huff out his nose.]

Well, to be fair, I've never tried it.

[Kaien loves celebrations for the Scorched like this one. So much happens in the city that they hardly have time to kick back and relax.

The shinigami spots Arthur on his way back from making his wish, and immediately greets him with a wave and a cheerful grin.]

Hey, Arthur! It's been a while. Have you made a wish yet?

[Arthur nods, and lifts a hand to return the greeting; Kaien's good cheer is always a buoyant thing.]

Kaien! Good to see you.

[The question catches him a little off-guard; it's not as though he believes his wish is going to come true or anything, it just seemed rude to ignore what was obviously a custom at this party, and, well...]

Er, yes, actually.

You too. How've you been?

[A beat]

Uh, aside from the zombies, anyway.

[He chuckles a little bit at Arthur's slightly awkward response. Kaien's not going to ask what he wished for; after all, that's the point of the anonymous wishing.]

Great. You're enjoying yourself, right Arthur?

[Kaien moves his arms to rest them behind his head, finding a relaxed position even while he stands.]

It's always nice to see celebrations like this. We Scorched get hardly enough time just to relax and have fun.

[Have someone who won't recognise you at all, having never met you face to face, looking introspective and rather sad as he leaves the bamboo and comes to sit at the counter. He'll perk up pretty quickly if you talk to him, he's just . . . being a bit homesick for someone.] Excuse me, is this seat taken? Everywhere else just looks a bit full.

Not at all. [A grand gesture to the empty seat, encouraging Johan to take it.]

[Initially Arthur has no intention of paying his new companion any attention, but he looks a little depressed. Arthur's jaw shifts, unsure what to say, if anything at all.]

Er. Are you- all right, there?

Huh? [He blinks a bit as he takes the seat. Then he smiles a little sheepishly.] Oh. Just . . . missing home a little. I'll be okay. But thanks.

[There's a slight pause, as though he's trying to think of something.] . . . your voice sounds familiar. Have we talked before?

Yes, I'm more than familiar with that feeling. [Arthur gives him a wry grimace, able to easily empathize with the homesickness that has been a part of him for so long he barely notices it anymore.] Have a drink, it'll help.

[Arthur nods thoughtfully, running through who he's talked to recently. He places it quickly; the young man with the strange animal, giving a slightly quizzical smile at the memory.] Johan, yes? It's Arthur, we spoke on the network.

. . . maybe you're right. [He promptly orders . . . . tea.]

That's me. [He laughs a little.] You're the one who thought I had a girl in my room. Are you out here for the holiday, too?

[Arthur blinks, because tea wasn't quite what he was going for, but remains quiet. Far be it for him to advocate alcohol when he's not drinking it himself.]

Ruby is a girl's name. And yes, though mostly just for the experience, I've never celebrated Tanabata before.

[He's under the drinking age at home. It probably never even occurred to him. Meanwhile, he laughs a little.]

I guess so. The others might not like it so much if you tell them that, though.

I never have either, but I know what it is. [He raises his teacup.] To learning about new things?

[Despite not understanding the concept of a drinking age, Arthur has water. Delicious, safe water. He inclines his glass in deference to the toast, and gives a smile slightly bittersweet with the memory with just how many new things he's had to learn here.]

To learning about new things.

[Arthur takes a small sip of his water, and then:]

Did you er, make a wish?

Reply

thejewelergem July 10 2010, 20:21:08 UTC
[Johan nods.] Yeah.

Did you?

I did, though I don't really know if it shall do anything at all. [a half-shouldered shrug, and then Arthur waves his hand dismissively, as though the entire melancholic process of wanting things could be done with.] It just seemed like the thing.
