They hadn't been kidding. The Mist hung heavy and stifling, and Link decided that the niggling sense that this was a bad idea was probably very valid. He felt overly exposed without Hylian armor or a tunic or anything on his head, but he had opted for attire that might seem a little more ordinary. The sheathed sword across his back probably ruined the effect, but he reconciled it by telling himself he'd seen enough people on the streets with strange weapons during the day. (And he was always going to stand out, if the way his welcomer had eyed his pointed ears was any indication ( ... )

She didn't hear him, at first. Well, she heard her name, but his voice seemed like a whisper in the wind. Eerie.

Nevertheless she followed the noise, leaning on the building for support. At the same time she used her other arm to pull her weapon into her free hand. Just in case.

"Link?" she repeated. Her voice was higher in volume than she expected. Pitch too. Was she getting nervous? Why? She thought back on her adventures, the monsters she had seen, the witches, the dangerous people. She should be prepared for anything, and she usually was. But the heightened fear remained. was it the Mist?

"Link?" She kept her gun before her as she proceeded.

The nervous lilt of her voice reached him, and a frown tugged at his lips. Had something already happened?

Link rounded the corner of the building, continuing forward with his eyes trained carefully ahead. His name drifted out from the Mist again (it was unnerving, the way it seemed to muffle everything just slightly) and he spoke, keeping his tone level and sure. "I'm here."

He was finally able to match a form, a face with her voice. Taking in the her tense posture, he held up a hand in greeting and in reassurance. A breath left him, and he felt something in himself relax now that he was in the company of another person, though he was still unsure of the situation they'd put themselves in.

"Is... everything alright?" Link eyed the unfamiliar object she had extended in front of her. 'Is that supposed to be a weapon? It's very small...' "What's that?" he asked softly, eyes curious and touched with a bit of apprehension.

Her whole body relaxed as she recognized the face of the figure before her. Specifically, the blue of his eyes. The tight grip on her weapon loosened, although the sense of dread that had caused her to lift her weapon did not. Yet she could tell just from looking that her own apprehension had turned infectious. Best not to leave a bad impression.

"Oh, hello!" She let go of the wall and offered her hand to him. "Link, right? I'm Martha, Martha Jones!" There was a brief pause before she released his eyes her still on her gun. "Oh this? Standard AK-47, nothing to worry about. I use it to shoot aliens, and since there don't seem to be any around..." She shrugged. "Just a souvenir from home."

"So, have you got your map? We'll probably want to find this ramen shop before the Mist gets any thicker."
