Where: Beginning at Sasori and Itachi's apartment, and veering into the streets of Anatole thereafter.

Elena knew a thing or two about mistakes. Her own had made her a bit thick-skinned, and she often needed it. When others doubted her, got annoyed with her, or even outright mocked her...she wasn't oblivious. It only seemed that way because Elena didn't let it stop her. She refused to let it stop her. What she was doing was important and she was willing to take any risk, even if it ended in disaster.

She knew a little about that too.

But Itachi was on a short list of people that Elena could be around and not need thick skin. He'd always been polite, bordering on kind more than once, and there seemed to be this strange mixture of things they had in common and things that were completely new to her. And for that brief moment that her mind registered that he was talking to a girl...

Well, she didn't know what the hell that was all about. In the end, she wasn't sure what it really was about, but the feeling that she got was enough to make her offer her company, enough to make Itachi accept ( ... )

The series of locks upon the door were unfastened with silent ease one-by-one, its heavy weight then pulled open far enough to allow for Elena to see him, to admit her inside and into the apartment and out of the dimmer hallway beyond ( ... )

Her eyes widened a little as the door opened. It was instinct by now, the way she wanted to see as much as she could as fast as she could and commit it all to memory. But the majority of her attention remained on Itachi, to whom she nodded before stepping over the apartment's threshold.

"See, that's where people go wrong." She paused just long enough to glance around at the apartment. It wasn't often that Elena got to see the personal living spaces of others. The first thing that she took note of was how clean -- no, immaculate everything was. It could give the President's office a run for its money. "They waste time, try to kill it. And that makes it your enemy." She turned to face Itachi again, both brows raising. "It's just like a person really. But I don't need to make an enemy out of it. Was she referring to the monster in the Dismas tunnels? Itachi contemplated this and studied Elena thoughtfully, shutting the door after her once she had made her way further into the apartment ( ... )
