[ Kakashi already knows some of his tricks, and that's -- annoying. Annoying, because there's no one like a spy to tell you just how valuable information is. Knowledge and information is the key to everything, and no matter how strong the opponent, you can always bring them down when you know the right thing.

Kabuto knows quite a few things about Kakashi. Far more than most do, because that's what Kabuto does, it's pretty much his job to know more about everyone than most people do, but he also knows it's not enough.

He's not here to fight, just yet, he's arrogant but he's not stupidIt was lucky, then, that everything on his person had stayed on his person when he came here. He'd made the usual precautions, made sure to erase his smell -- he has a few bodies to spare, but he uses just one. He alters it's face, leaves traces of his scent, and honestly he would have preferred being able to use two, maybe three, but he had a limited number and there was no easy way he could think of ( yet ) to replenish his supply, once he's used them ( ... )

Well. Yes, technically.

[ Kakashi doesn't move an inch when -- Kabuto -- descends out of the forest, moving toward him. There's predictability, and Kabuto's never been the predictable sort, but then there's intelligent reasoning, and. Yeah. Kakashi knows that's not him.

He almost sighs, but he refrains out of politeness, and he unfolds his arm from across his chest, dropping it to his side as his fingers curl in toward his palm, scraping over the material of his glove. And for a minute, or maybe it's two minutes, he doesn't say anything. He just eyes the corpse in front of him, not staring too hard, just studying the various sharp lines and curves of its form with a detached sort of curiosity.

Honestly. How creepy. No wonder he'd gotten along with Orochimaru. ]

But I'm sure you have an excuse.

[ Yeah, what is that excuse, Kabuto? Too busy fending off the five million people already after your ass? ]

I was lost on the road of life.

[ What had tied Kabuto to Orochimaru was a simple combination of medical interest and "why the fuck not", as well as the plain and simple knowledge that he'd have been killed if he'd refused.

His capability to work around corpses just made it a little easier to be around the man. ]

That's something you would say, yes?

[ It laughs, and it's really only creepy once you know it isn't alive, because it seems so real, it seems so alive, Kabuto gets it down to the very last detail, the corpse's shoulders and ribcage are rising-and-falling with the breath it isn't really taking, it's blinking at the average rate for an adult male aged twenty to thirty and he can tell you all the numbers off the top of his head ( about fifteen a minute, breathing rate approximately twelve to twenty breaths a minute, but for a trained shinobi like Kabuto was somewhere closer to eleven, and that's how the rate he's using ( ... )

[ Lovely.

Kakashi is silent for a bit, and he exhales again, once, breath even and slow, as he finally pushes himself away from the tree. One hand slides into his pocket, and the other remains at his side, the tiniest pulses of near-invisible entry curling around his fingers, embedding itself into the lines in his palm. ]

Are we on a first name basis, now?

[ But he's not looking at Kabuto's puppet anymore. He's fixed on a spot directly over its shoulder, and his focus wanders distractedly, flitting up toward the night sky. ]
