Simon set out from his apartment without knowing exactly where the clinic was- an oversight he was regretting now as he attempted to ask passersby about its location. It wasn't that they were unfriendly or unhelpful, it just made Simon feel like a fool.

Once he got to the clinic, he knew, he'd be able to handle anything that they threw at him. He didn't get to the top three percent of his class by slacking off, and he had a natural ability for medicine anyway. His new ability was troubling, but potentially useful for getting information about a patient's affliction if they were reluctant or unable to speak.

Simon grimaced. That sounded calculating, cold. Unlike him at all. But if it was for the sake of saving a life, did it matter? He'd been willing to do morally ambiguous things to save River- only now he knew River had been here. She was here, the boy had told him. Simon didn't want to know what had happened to her. She would be immortal, essentially, but he still felt uncomfortable not knowing where she was ( ... )

Lupin was looking for Simon, too, when they ran into each other.

No introduction needed for Lupin to recognise him. And to eradicate all skepticism he'd had at Simon's surname. Side by side perhaps he and River wouldn't seem to resemble each other so strikingly, but in her absence…

Lupin put his hand on the volunteer's shoulder to dismiss her, then extended the hand to Simon. "Dr Tam. It's good to meet you."
