[Deneve had sensed him - the one from Pieta, the lion who should be dead - several times before, skulking around the city. The difference was that today she was alone when she felt his yoki. Helen was off handling the delivery of some new kind of alcohol she fancied and Deneve had gone out by herself to see to a few things. So when she felt her blood boil and her skin prickle with a bloody desire to cut him, there was no one around to remind her what a very bad idea that was. There was only jagged memory of what he had done. To her comrades. To Veronica, Flora, and Jean. And to Undine.

The hand which normally held the former number eleven's sword clenched as she climbed buildings, keeping her yoki quiet but not invisible as she moved toward him. She knew Helen would have yelled at her for, among other things, being spectacularly stupid - and there was a voice in her head telling her to run screaming from anything Helen would call a stupid idea - but she couldn't let it go. Her failure then had been so complete. There were few things ( ... )

[He doesn't turn his attention to her until she speaks to him, even though he could feel her drawing closer. It's not much more than a faint flicker, but it's enough - she's approaching, she's likely alone, and under other circumstances, he'd be content to simply ignore her.]

[But, no, she obviously means to make a nuisance of herself. That angry one... he isn't sure of her name or rank, but here in Anatole that matters even less to him than it did back home. She isn't important.]

[Rigaldo lifts his head lazily, but the gaze he fixes on her is sharp and cold. He doesn't move, otherwise.]

Yes, I suppose it is.

Did you want something.

[She's not intimidated in the least, though she knows she should be. There is some fear - she has always always feared death and though it seems a normal thing to fear she has also always hated her terror of it - but she burns it up in her gut like so much kindling. It is nothing.

Her eyes, fierce and just as sharp as his, glare daggers down at him.]

I did.

[She reaches back over her shoulders and draws both swords and holds them out before her, by now so comfortable with this stance that they have become almost extensions of her arms.]

I wanted to see you die.

[His only reaction to it - outwardly - is a blink. Two swords? And by the look of her stance, she isn't unused to handling them. He seems to remember seeing another one making such extravagant gestures very "recently", but only briefly.]

[Very, very briefly.]

[The second one to fall, if he isn't mistaken.]

To avenge your comrades, is that it?

[He holds the look carefully, unrelenting, until he turns away. Turns back to the windows before him; Clare was beyond one of them, somewhere, and even hidden by walls she was more of a point of interest than this angry one.]

[But even though he isn't looking at her now, he holds a hand out in what would otherwise be an inviting gesture.]

Come at me then. I can spare a moment to send you to join them.

Here - have a head start.
