I have been here for nearly a full month... It appears as though I should begin looking for a permanent residence.

Some of those from our world are arriving here from strange places. I have heard the names Atia and World's End, to be specific and name a couple.
As well, it appears there are regular intervals where people come and go through a doorway in the center of town. It's worth investigating... if you are intent on leaving. Otherwise, you will be required to find a means for acquiring finances, known as Ivories here, in order to be able to afford any of the necessities. This includes housing, after your first full month has expired.
