[ oh there are so many ways in which she would like to tell this woman to shove it. ]

[ to shut the fuck up. ]

[ to go suck off an angel, because she's sure she's plenty good at that. And she's so close to it, too -]

Why don't y -

[ she swallows. hard. ]

[ although her voice? possibly a bit biting. ]

It's alright.

[She hears the start of something angry. Oops. She hadn't meant it that way.]

What I meant is that...not everyone is out to betray you. There are people who do care and do so only out of goodness.

I don't think I want to talk about it.

[ you. ]

[ go away. ]

[earlier he's sure he would have torn her to pieces over this one, just out of spite, and even now he's more tempted to be snide than anything. It's not like he'll get a cordial response either way.]

[but--]

So that's it, then.

[ cordial? what is cordial? ]

[ if it's pulling on her face to rid her eyes of sleep sand, to wake up, because apparently this has to be dealt with and dammit she's going to break the forge tomorrow, or glaring down at her pillow as if it's done her some wrong (which it has) then she might be doing it right... ]

[ but look. this is one she doesn't have to be cordial to at all. ]

Fuck off.

[this isn't exactly an olive branch, Mina]

[not that you'll take it as one]

You're overestimating how much I care.

If you don't care -

[ to try to wound me, you probably wouldn't have responded. ]

[ nor in private. ]

- than lay off. I'm not - fuck... fucking... - I'm not talking about this with you!

[ She is quiet for a long, long time. ]

Did she survive?

[ initially, yes. but later... when Minatsuki found her in the ruble... ]

No.

[ Ironic and fitting, to leave a child like that. Everyone gets what's coming to them. ]

And then you moved to live with your father and your brother.

[ she remembers the conversation they had. ]

We all moved. Our house was rubble.

[ truly, an empty conversation it had been. (so she would prefer to think) ]

[Not funny at all.

She's had people turn on her, but not like this. It's one idea that's almost unthinkable (not completely though do you remember the Moon Door, Sansa?) - and she shakes her head, closes her eyes and swallows.

Remembers feeling small and betrayed and alone - might she not have died if not for this place and all it's done for her? She has no real way of knowing.

But she does know what without her family here, she's not sure what she would have done. And that this isn't fair.]

She did not come back for you?

[It sounds as if she might know the answer already.]

[ You may have your family, girl. But the likes are your father never hit you, and your brothers know you're fully capable of bathing by yourself and do not take it upon themselves to do it. ]

[ Besides, you're little. Little girls get trapped under shelves and are scared without their mother or father. ]

[ Little girls don't know what to do with themselves. ]

[ Little girls cry. ]

She died.

[ And you're proving that little girls are stupid, too. ]

I'm so sorry, Mina.

[But sorry is useless, and she knows this. She cannot believe her own mother or father would ever turn and run and leave her, but she understands fear - and what it is to be in the grip of it.]

Surely she would have come back...

[There's only the hint of a question just beneath.]

No.

[ It's an immediate response - sharp and biting and bitter beyond everything she's said to this girl so far. ]

[ It's...painful. It hurts. But something inside her broke that day, and anything painful or hurtful now just feels like little hands crawling under her skin and pulling on her stomach until it turns into a twisted knot of angry. ]

[ She manages to bite back anything more cruel and harsh than that word, however, even as various insults and barbs swirl in her mind's eye. ]

...No.
