I'm from a tradition that protects life and has for thousands of years. Why would they not include this? Could all magic be bad in one world and not in another?

I've heard that magic requires sacrifices. Blood and life itself. But I defend with a blade that was forged with it.

If you don't adapt, you die.

[ simple as that. ] Tradition - or willingness - aside.

Does survival mean everything to you?

It's where everything else starts, you know. You have to be alive to have tradition or...anything like that.

You can lose honor without losing your life, but then what is living worth?

I think tradition will always hold a special place, but with it one must exercise caution. Those lost in tradition can eventually lose themselves.

It is wise to remember that even traditions must adapt to the changes in time and places.

[That makes a lot of sense to him. And for all his stubbornness, Jon isn't an idiot.]

For a better way instead of just old ways.

[It reminds him of what the Targaryen girl said.]

[ Because, truthfully, some don't. ]

What have you learned of it?

Daenerys healed father's leg. It was quicker and cleaner than my foot, though his wound was much graver.

I saw many healed at the clinic, some that were surely beyond the help of a Maester.

And I have ...a glass of blue fire. It's comforting to watch, and it gives off a gentle heat. I've never seen anything like it, Jon. I feel only wonder when I look on it, not dread.

[He is thankful that their father's leg was healed, he really is. It gives him even more to think about.]

Where did you get the blue fire? Did someone give it to you?

You have been growing philisophical in your time away from home.

There's been plenty to think about.

I imagine you have plenty of time to muse on things of that nature on the wall.
