I don't think I'm going to get all my chores done today.

[Esecially if Merlin hasn't completed them by this late hour. Normally he finishes them in plenty of time to go sneaking around. But not even a night of following Morgana through the forest could give him dark circles like he's sporting right now.I'm wishing that I'd paid more attention to ( Read more... )

What chores do you have to do?

I still need to change the sheets...finish the laundry...

[He trails off, meaning that there's probably more but he's just too tired to think about it.]

Maybe you should take a break?

I can't. I fear I might not have the strength to to pick up where I left off.

[He's kind of joking...kind of not.]

Perhaps I can offer assistance with the chores.

Well, you are the second best boot polisher I've ever seen.

Only second best? My, I need to shape up then.

Good luck trying to best me, my friend. I've had years of practice.

"Chores". I don't know why, but that's funny hearing that from a guy.

Socks don't wash themselves, doesn't matter who wears them.

Of course not! Do many guys even know how to wash socks?

Maybe not many guys, but I happen to be quite good at it if I do say so myself.

[Don't sound too proud, Merlin. You might sprain something.]

[ Kay is not looking well at the moment, either...but he offers you a kind look over the Forge, Merlin. ]

...I have not seen anything out of the ordinary near the water myself, but if you would like assistance with your chores, Merlin, I'd be more than willing to help.

Kay...no.

[The protest isn't a rejection of his help. More like disappointment at seeing that the illness has touched him as well. But he tries to put some of the usual warmth and mischief in his voice as he continues.]

Don't worry, I'm sure Arthur will let me slide just this once.

That would mean all the more work for you to catch up on once you feel better, is that not so?

Let me help.

[ Because he refuses to acknowledge his own fatigue. Thinks that maybe with some hard labor he can sweat it out. ]

[Merlin can't resist a soft laugh. He's got him there.]

An extra set of hands would be appreciated, but not nearly as much as your company.

Look at all these volunteers. Perhaps I should hire one of them, instead.

[ Arthur sounds grumpy, and tired, and sick, which he is. ]

I'm sure I'll have everything done by the time you're out of bed.

[Which is, from the sound of it, where he needs to be.]

See that you do.

Though... don't overdo it. I'm sure as I'm not... [ a yawn ] not planning on going out today, my boots don't need to be particularly shiny.

Oh don't worry, Sire. I never overdo it.

[A weak smile. He thought a touch of insolence might cheer Arthur up.]

Though the least I can do is make sure that you have fresh sheets.

[And that will also give him a chance to check up on you.]
