I heard in the marketplace that some women had been found dead.

[Or maybe he should say 'more women', the way things have been going lately.]

Why is it that women and children are being preyed upon? Aren't there leaders here? Why aren't they speaking up? How can they just let their own people-

Women and children are not frequently preyed upon? They're the weakest, so wouldn't they be the first selected by someone with ill intent?

Only cowards target the weakest.

Just because it's cowardly doesn't mean it's not the wisest course of action if you're up to no good.

I wouldn't call that being wise. More like a murderer.

Supposedly this place's leaders are mere children themselves.

What? Where are their parents?

Well someone must know. They have to have guardians or something. If they're just children trying to rule, then it isn't any wonder that this place is a mess!

Well, contrary to belief, women are certainly not weak. And they're going to get theirs soon enough for that.

But children? It's sick.

Sorry, I didn't mean it that way. Honest.

It's just that they seem to be the ones being targeted and the rulers aren't doing anything about it. I'm not used to it.

Don't worry -- I know you didn't. But obviously the person who's been doing that certainly thinks that way.

You can't always rely in higher authority to give a damn. Sometimes you have to take matters in your own hands.

I guess not.

[His own faith in the current king back home is...lacking. It's only the future one that he believes in.]

But won't that get us into trouble?

They shouldn't have to! Especially if they're not warriors.

Shouldn't they?

[You have such silly ideas about food people, Merlin.]

I suppose they're only expected to wait until someone more noble and stronger than they are comes and saves them. What's the use of protecting a life like that?

I don't suppose I should expect some people to understand.

It takes a great deal of time to truly see this place for what it is. If that's even possible.

And I don't think the Twins are really concerned about us. That's why we try to look out for one another.

But... some things...

There are some things we have no power over. At least not until we understand them better than we do now. ...like this.

I think I'm seeing more of it every day.

Is it true that they're just children themselves?

It's hard to say. They look like children.

...So they could be something else entirely.

[Which is even more troubling than the thought of children ruling them.]

Has no one ever gone to find out?
