[Sooo, there are some spoken words Zack doesn't recognize, though he's pretty sure that at least someone might. After all, more had been arriving as of late, which meant more people, more memories, more knowledge. Maybe even someone might recognize this...uh....

[Bird? Guy? Birdman? Who knew? But Zack wasn't going to judge; it wasn't his place. He wasn't that rude.]

Hey? Hello? I think you left your Forge on, man! If you pull it out, maybe we can talk and I can answer some of your questions!

{A shuffling, an unmistakable "Ahhh??" from not-too-far away, and the device is held aloft again. The mask seems to smile, though obviously that's impossible. There's something about the voice, though, that emotes through it.}

Who is this? The box? Tell me how you speak, demonio, and I shall speak back. What is a... Forge... ? I believe you're mistaking actions for objects.

[Zack can get in on this video-ness. Flicking it on, he leans back and tries waving, a little half-movement, before he cocks his chin up.]

The name's Zack. Um, mine, not the device, because that is a Forge. And before you ask, I'm not a tiny man stuck in this box, or a demoniolo or whatever. A Forge is a tool? yeah, that's a good word-- we use to communicate with other folks.

Does that make sense?

Zack.

{The Doctor waves back, halfheartedly. Elena's shown him a bit about how the communicator works... sort of. Still new, still weird, but gradually getting there.}

A tool. That works, and makes sense.

How... is your hair standing straight like that, porcospino?

[Elena's first thought is that he reminds her a little of a chocobo.

But only a little.]

They say that hate is a pretty strong word. I understand how you feel though. And I don't know who 'they' are in the first place, so I don't see any reason to put any faith in what they say.

I guess what I'm leading up to is...no one can get you out of here. And you'll get used to the snow, and a lot of other things. Because you have to.

{Perhaps as a child, he was yellow and fluffy.}

{So there's another voice. Female, this time. The box contains spirits? He wasn't letting go of this thing.}

Faith's a tricky thing, but hate? Il mio amico, hate is straightforward. I know what I hate and do not hate, and I know all about faith.

In Roma, I did what I wished. Who is in charge of the church here? Names?

So what do you hate? Besides...well, this.

['Roma'. She mouths the word to herself.]

I don't know about any church, but as far as who's in charge, everything points to the Twins.

Oh, and the Mist. But there isn't anything that can be done about that. Not unless your mask...

[Elena trails off, reminding herself of that particular curiosity.]

What's up with that mask, anyway. Is it part of a uniform?

Many things, none of which are relevant at this moment.

{Or more accurately, nothing he's willing to delve into with a talking box.}

Mist? And Twins. Are these your deities? Do you not have a proper God here... ? Or am I expecting odd things from an object capable of conversing...

{Head cocked to the side, he nods at the last part.}

It protects me from filth. Malattio. Sickness. Do you have a name, like "Dawn"?

{Yeah. He's really not getting the concept of "communicator".}

[Ezio was right. Italian was useful! Too bad she didn't know it. Luckily she missed the birdmask. THANK GOD. But she's pretty sure she knows what merda means.]

I know, right? Merda. [Hey. It's not really cursing if it's in another language is it? Uh.

Wait. This is a ...different man speaking Italian, and ...oh. Another new guy.]

It's been snowing like crazy for a little bit, now. You should get inside, okay?

{Some things just seem to translate beyond all borders. Unfortunately, they're usually the bad things.}

Back to... the housing? But it isn't mine.

It is for a month. You get a room, and a free drink at the Foxhole.

[It's snowing too hard for her to go outside, and the last thing she needs is to get herself into trouble again, even if it's just in the city.]

You're in a place called Anatole, by the way. I-if nobody's told you.

I dislike owing anything. All these things for free... someone will want something. That's just how it works.

{He's pleased now, having at least the name of his new location. Whoever he's conversing with is useful.}

Anatole. And you? What is your name?

[ He recognizes the Roma accent. Not necessarily the speaker, but Romans have a certain way of pronouncing their infinitives. ]

You are a long way from Roma, dottore.

[ An observation, his own Florentine accent slipping through. ]

{Now this is different. A little too close to home. He begins to speak-- an intake of breath cut off by a slow exhale through the nose. There's nothing particularly threatening about the statement, no, but the voice doesn't settle right. Not impersonal, like the others. This one is real for certain.}

That I am, buon amico. That I am. I wager you are as well, sì? How are you faring?

[ An amused noise, unaware as he is of the dottore being anything more than simply that. ]

Well enough not to require your services at the moment.

{Slight relief. The voice on the other side... could be who it sounds like? And surely there was only one Roma. Either way, move along.}

Eccellente! Do look me up if the need arises.
